    Surrey 399-5 v Hampshire

Tom Curran picks up his first run from his 11th delivery, a nudge into the off side off Felix Organ, which also keeps him on strike.

    Dan Lawrence has 211*.

    Surrey 397-5 v Hampshire

Delano Potgieter returns to the attack with a high delivery, too high, which Dan Lawrence guides to the boundary at third for four runs and two no balls.

A single takes Lawrence onto 210* but Tom Curran survives the next ball as he tries a pull and something gets a touch on the way through to Ben Brown.

Potgieter wheels away in celebration but the umpire is unmoved, does he think it clipped his helmet? Either way Tom Curran remains and Potgieter is even more displeased with his day at the office.

    Curran c Orr b Organ 20 (Surrey 390-5 v Hampshire)

The thing about hitting 29 fours and five sixes is that you have a lot of energy left for running between the wickets.

Dan Lawrence showcases that with a rapid two off Felix Organ and then picks up a single.

Organ's next ball is short and is walloped by Sam Curran who falls to a brilliant sliding catch from Ali Orr at deep square leg.

Tom Curran replaces Sam and it's clear Surrey are aiming for 450 as quickly as possible.

  4. Postpublished at 17:19 BST 7 June

    Surrey 387-4 v Hampshire

Sorry Hampshire fans, but Sam Curran's opening up too.

He picks up back-to-back boundaries off the returning James Fuller but almost picks out short mid-wicket from the fourth ball as he's caught in two minds about how much tap to apply.

The final ball of the over is crashed to the long-on boundary to take him to 20*.

The spin of Felix Organ returns to the Pavilion End.

Dan Lawrence pushes a single to cover to reach 195* bringing Sam Curran on strike on 6*.

The left-hander cuts to the cover boundary for another single before Lawrence picks up two off a thick edge when he was aiming for a six over extra cover.

He gets there from the next ball... a maiden double century. On the same ground where he made his maiden first class century for Essex.

His 29th four to go with five sixes. It's taken just 172 balls.

    Imperious stuff.

  6. Postpublished at 17:09 BST 7 June

    Surrey 364-4 v Hampshire

Sam Curran picks up his first boundary with an uppish clip off the back foot through mid-wicket off James Fuller.

Dan Lawrence will return to the strike on 194* from 168 deliveries.

    Uncharted territory.

  7. Postpublished at 17:05 BST 7 June

    Surrey 359-4 v Hampshire

Sonny Baker is fired up. Full and short. Nose and toes. And he's nudged up a couple of mph.. closer to 90 than 80.

Sam Curran and Dan Lawrence milk three singles before Curran needlessly ducks under a bouncer that could have cleared him even on his brother's shoulders.

  8. Postpublished at 17:01 BST 7 June

    Surrey 356-4 v Hampshire

Sonny Baker tries another short ball and tempts Dan Lawrence into a tame waft but there's no edge this time and he doesn't fall in the same manner as Ollie Pope.

Sam Curran got off the mark with a single from James Fuller's previous over while Lawrence is on 192*.

    Pope c Brown b Baker 76 (Surrey 353-4 v Hampshire)

Sonny Baker is bending his back trying to get a breakthrough but his radar is off and this one is short and down leg side and it's a wide, much to his chagrin.

The next ball is edged by Dan Lawrence through the vacant slips for another boundary and takes Lawrence onto 187* from 155 balls.

He miscues the next one off a top-edge but it falls safely behind short mid-wicket and the 250 stand is up.

Ollie Pope has pulled a one-bounce four to fine leg off another short ball to bring up a third batting point and move to 76*.

    But he's gone now.

Pope feathers an edge through to Ben Brown as he tries to hook down the leg side and Baker has his rewards, but Pope looks crestfallen.

The stand is broken for 255 in 37 overs.

Sam Curran is the new batter.

    Surrey 341-3 v Hampshire

The last thing Hampshire want is the sun coming out, but lo and behold, we have shadows on the field.

Nine off the over from Kyle Abbott, who has 0-68 off 19 overs.

He has a face like thunder, at least.

He'd have fancied a fiverfer by now when his skipper Ben Brown first won the toss.

for Dan Lawrence (and a new FC best, and a new club record)published at 16:46 BST 7 June

    Surrey 338-3 v Hampshire

Kyle Abbott strays onto Dan Lawrence's pads and Dan Lawrence clips him up and over the deep square leg boundary for his fifth maximum.

That's a new career First Class best for Lawrence and also sets a new record for the highest fourth-wicket stand for Surrey against Hampshire, breaking one set in 1948.

  13. Postpublished at 16:44 BST 7 June

    Surrey 332-3 v Hampshire

Thick outside edge from Dan Lawrence and it's his 27th four, another to the third boundary.

Given the forecast for tomorrow it feels like Surrey are trying to get a day-and-a-half of action into day one.

Lawrence moves to 172* by fending off a full-toss from Sonny Baker from his second delivery.

Ollie Pope picks up a single before another full-toss is clipped away by Lawrence who then pulls to fine leg for a quick two, denied a four by the sliding Tom Prest.

Another leg-side single is fielded by Prest and Lawrence has 175* - three shy of his career best.

    Surrey 323-3 v Hampshire

Dan Lawrence sends Kyle Abbott back over his head for a towering straight six and moves to 162* - his highest score of the season.

Off the front foot and he didn't even middle it. Incredible.

He follows up with a straight drive for four through a flock of pigeons which James Fuller can't prevent reaching the rope.

  15. Postpublished at 16:38 BST 7 June

Dan Lawrence picks up where he left off, pulling a short ball sweetly through the leg side for four runs, his 25th.

Six off the first over of the session too...

Kyle Abbott is back at the other end.

It's not quite a partnership record against Surrey for the fourth wicket - they are 27 short.

Ollie Pope has over 1,000 first class runs against Hampshire... at this ground.

Between lunch and tea Surrey were going at over six an over.

Surrey are in a very good position.

A partnership of 206 between Dan Lawrence and Ollie Pope.

The pitch has got a bit in it, it's green, it's nipped around, bounced, but these two have batted very well, and Hampshire have an issue on their hands...

Not a bad afternoon for Dan Lawrence, he moved to 150* just before tea and as he came off he was presented with his county cap by Alec Stewart.

  20. Tea at the Ovalpublished at 16:17 BST 7 June

    Surrey 304-3 v Hampshire

    What a session for Surrey.

When Dom Sibley fell to James Fuller to make it 98-3 shortly after lunch, nobody could have foreseen this scoreboard at tea, surely.

Dan Lawrence is unbeaten on 150, Ollie Pope has 68* and they have added 206 in 32 overs.

Hampshire won the toss and opted to bowl first under leaden skies on the greenest top you've seen, but they have been made to toil by these two talented batters and they'll have more batting bonus points in their sights in the 32 overs which remain in the day.

Hampshire would probably want a break longer than 20 minutes, in truth.
