  1. Aus 81-2published at 21 overs

That's absolutely laced through the covers!

Travis Head sends Josh Tongue's delivery absolutely racing across the Adelaide outfield and over the ropes.

That takes him to 44, but he won't advance further for now after his straight drive to Tongue's final ball rebounds off the stumps at the bowler's end.

This is hard to watch. New batsman, no pressure, part-time spinner. Assuming Root, Archer and Stokes are unable to bowl? The game is slipping away.

With this field, there are plenty of singles out there. As long as you don't get bored, you just keep rotating strike. England have never built a lot of pressure, it is like they're waiting for Australia to make a mistake. You have to have a bit more intent.

  4. Aus 76-2published at 20 overs

There's some turn for Will Jacks, with his fourth delivery jagging past the bat of Travis Head.

We haven't seen a great deal of that from the England spinner.

A lot of talk about England’s batting this series, but I don’t think enough is being said about the bowling. Far too short from the seamers compared to the Aussies. So many wickets for Australia caught behind on a length. The difference is night and day.

Travis Head swipes at Josh Tongue's delivery, sending the ball skewing over the slip cordon for four.

That takes Australia's lead past 150.

I think England fans should be happy that the team is at least taking the game to the fourth day. A little bit of hope here. It’s progress worth celebrating.

I am not too happy with Will Jacks' bowling. Australia are milking it. I think the seamers need to do some bowling.

There's no pressure. A new batsman is in and England are desperate to get a wicket. Ben Stokes hasn't bowled yet. England need to get into this and attack Usman Khawaja.

  9. Aus 64-2published at 18 overs

Will Jacks loops a delivery down the leg side and Usman Khawaja doesn't need asking twice, he sweeps hard out to fine leg.

Jofra Archer runs round the boundary to try and cut the ball off with a dive, but he can't quite get his hand on it.

There seems to be a better attitude in the field and more energy. England's players are running a bit more and the body language is what it is all about. It was missing up in Brisbane. It looks better from England out in the middle.

  11. Aus 57-1published at 17 overs

That's Usman Khawaja off the mark.

The last ball of Josh Tongue's over offers a fair bit of width and Khawaja, who made 82 in the first innings, dispatches it to the point boundary.

Tongue is denied a wicket maiden.

We have been saying all day that the slips and the keeper need to stand up.

It was a good ball from Josh Tongue and a good catch from Harry Brook!

England have worked hard for that wicket and they have finally got it.

    Good breakthrough needed.

    It has carried!

The replays show Harry Brook got his fingers under the ball, that's the end of Marnus Labuschagne's innings.

The players will take drinks with Australia 138 runs ahead.

    But has this one carried?

Josh Tongue finds the shoulder of Marnus Labuschagne's bat, and Harry Brook takes the edge with a tumble.

Has Brook taken this cleanly? The umpires are going to find out...

  15. Aus 53-1published at 16 overs

Edged in front of the slip again!

Will Jacks draws the nick from Travis Head with his last delivery, but the opener played with soft hands and the ball drops short of Harry Brook, who doesn't hold on after the bounce anyway.

  16. Aus 50-1published at 15 overs

Josh Tongue sends down a pretty rank short ball that gets called a wide - that's Australia's 50 up.

The game feels like it's been in a bit of a holding pattern over the past few overs, and England's initial threat after lunch seems to have dissipated.

Australia will have no issue with this state of affairs.

It’s the hope that kills you. I have more chance of winning the lottery than England have of getting anything out of this Test match.

Australia are just rotating strike now, lovely batting.

It wasn't a bad first over, but you have got to be thinking, 'Come on now, let's get some maidens under me'.

The way we’ve batted thus far in the series, anything greater than a 250 run chase will be terminal for England. Would love to be more positive, but our team have certainly not earnt positivity. A win could turn the tide though.

A couple of singles from Will Jacks' first over.

The off-break bowler bowled 20 overs in Australia's first innings, taking 2-105.
