    Just waking up?

England have taken two wickets in the past few overs to give themselves some renewed hope.

Will Jacks before Usman Khawaja caught behind, before Cameron Green was well held at slip by Harry Brook off Josh Tongue.

    Enjoy.

It is getting to the realm that you need to bowl the Aussies out.

Perhaps word of Tuffers' exasperation at England's short ball plan reached the players because Josh Tongue is back to a more traditional field, slip in place, and is bowling much fuller again.

He entices a drive from Alex Carey and the ball hangs in the air for a while but drops just short of Joe Root at cover and gets through. Four runs.

I find it difficult to have hope because no matter how good England's bowling is, the batting is almost guaranteed to crumble.

After five singles from the first five balls of Will Jacks' over, Travis Head thrashes the last through the off side.

It looks four all the way but a brilliant diving stop from Ben Duckett in the deep saves a couple of runs.

Haven't you seen how Australia bowled yesterday?

Have you not been watching boys? Look at this field, Alex Carey has just come in!

We were so impressed with how Australia bowled top of off stump so consistently.

It is like we haven't taken anything from it.

Josh Tongue floating a quick, full and wide delivery to Cameron Green after starting the over with a short ball.

The wicket delivery from Tongue was the quickest of the lot, and seamed away off the pitch more than the other full deliveries.

Josh Tongue is back to the short stuff to Travis Head and new batter Alex Carey.

But he goes too wide to the latter and is thumped through the off side for four.

Carey loves to hook and pull so you can see why England might test him with a few bumpers early on but having got the wicket going fuller, keeping a slip in to leave that option might not be a bad idea.

There is something not quite right with Ben Stokes. Word is he is fit to bowl.

A couple of quick wickets always lifts the spirits. We have got wickets, but we haven't got clusters.

When Australia are bowling to us, they get clusters.

Travis Head is the set batter and he looks to put the pressure back on England.

  12. What you've missed on day threepublished at 05:02 GMT 19 December 2025

If you're just waking up on Friday morning, you've missed Australia consolidating their control of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide.

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer resumed from 213-8 overnight and ultimately added 106 for the ninth wicket, with both passing fifty.

Their rear-guard action ended with lunch in sight, as England closed on 286, a first-innings deficit of 85.

The tourists took a wicket of their own before the break, seeing Brydon Carse trap Jake Weatherald lbw for one, but Australia dominated the afternoon session.

The home side only lost one wicket between the intervals, when Marnus Labuschagne was caught by Harry Brook off the bowling of Josh Tongue, as Pat Cummins' side steadily built their lead.

Travis Head reached his half-century off 78 balls and remains unbeaten on 77 after tea, having seen Usman Khawaja, with whom he put on 86, and Cameron Green dismissed in consecutive overs.

Australia's lead now stands at 234, with Head batting alongside first innings centurion Alex Carey.

Cameron Green playing on length. It was full and outside off stump.

He could have left both of those and been there, but he didn't learn.

England are hanging in there, which they haven't done in previous Test matches.

Edged and gone! England have hope...

Excellent from Josh Tongue, bowling that much fuller to Cameron Green in this over.

A play and miss the ball prior but the edge is found this time as Green pushes at one on a fifth stump line.

Harry Brook is the only slip and he comes forward to take a very good catch.

I was in Raglan a few weeks ago, Nick. Lovely part of the world. But as for rain being England's only hope, not so much.

A draw is no good for Ben Stokes' side if they want to regain the Ashes.

Sitting at home on the west coast in New Zealand, and it's starting to rain. I think that's all that's left of hope for England.

Cameron Green has a big stride and a big reach. It was as easy as you like. He timed it nicely.

England in the past have shown they don't mind chasing. Whether they have the confidence to do that - we will wait and see.

Very positive start from Cameron Green, timing a drive very well through the covers to get off the mark with a boundary.

It's a good over from Will Jacks, though, and he finds Green's edge a couple of balls later.

But it goes wide of slip and Australia run three.

    That is what England needed.

Another wide ball, but it bounced a bit more than what Usman Khawaja thought it would.

Khawaja is strong against spin, but Will Jacks has got him out both times.
