A quieter over from Matt Henry - 'only' 11 runs from it!

It's incredibly tough when both batters are going but Matt Henry trying the bouncer, it's just not working. Both batters are finding ways to score boundaries with ease at the moment.

  3. 6 runs

    SA 61-0published at 3.5 overs

    Target 176

    Ruthless from South Africa!

Quinton de Kock swivels to send Matt Henry's third ball to four and then plants one over long leg for his first maximum.

New Zealand have got no answers for this onslaught right now!

  4. SA 51-0published at 3 overs

    Target 176

We are only three overs in and South Africa have already gone past 50!

And Aiden Markram has scored 41 of those from 14 balls!!

Everything is going their way as another edge runs away for four before Markram flicks one off his pads to find another boundary past short fine leg.

  5. 6 runs

    SA 43-0published at 2.3 overs

    Target 176

Change in bowling doesn't bring change in fortunes though for New Zealand.

Aiden Markram picks up Jacob Duffy's slower one and dispatches it over mid-on for a six and then follows it up with another maximum through the same region to make it back-to-back sixes for the South Africa captain.

  6. SA 31-0published at 2.1 overs

    Target 176

With his opening bowlers leaking runs aplenty, Mitch Santner has now turned to Jacob Duffy.

New Zealand have opened the bowling with Jacob Duffy in their first games and for a long time so this change of tactic has not worked so far.

  8. SA 31-0published at 2 overs

    Target 176

An outside edge gives Aiden Markram four more before the two South Africa openers rotate strike.

New Zealand ballers continue to err allowing Quinton de Kock to drive to the boundary as Lockie Ferguson's over proves even more costly - 18 runs off it.

Wow! What a six that is. Markram has gone out there with a real mission.

  10. 6 runs

    SA 19-0published at 1.1 overs

    Target 176

    Brilliant shot from Aiden Markram!

This time, it goes all the way for the first six of the innings as he launches it over cover.

Lockie Ferguson is on the receiving end this time.

Matt Henry is usually so good at holding his length but he's overpitched for the third time in the over and Quinton de Kock was able to just chip it back past him.

  12. SA 13-0published at 1 over

    Target 176

Quinton de Kock is also off the mark with a boundary.

He drives another half‑volley from Matt Henry straight back past the bowler. It hung in the air for a moment, but flew just beyond Henry’s reach and past the umpire on its way to the rope.

If you're going to bowl width to Aiden Markram then he's going to lay into it. He's a very imposing cricketer.

  14. SA 8-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 176

Aiden Markram opens his account with a classy cover drive off Matt Henry that runs away to the boundary.

He follows that up with another delightful stroke which also yields the same result.

Terrific start by South Africa this!

  15. Postpublished at 15:26 GMT 14 February

Captain Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock will open the batting for South Africa - plenty of experience there!

And Matt Henry is at the top of his mark and set to attack with the new ball for New Zealand.

This run chase is about to get under way at Ahmedabad.

New Zealand batter Mark Chapman, who scored 48 from 26 balls: "It's a pretty good surface here typically. There's a bit of pace and bounce. Not ideal to lose a few wickets at the end of the powerplay but we knew the surface was good so we had to keep going.

"We're probably a little bit under par but our bowling group are clear in their plans so hopefully they can execute."

    Thanks, Mike.

New Zealand never quite kicked on as much as they would've loved to but that total should still give them something solid to work with.

South Africa, meanwhile, will feel they’ve kept this within range, so let's get into it as the chase is coming up shortly.

Right then, we won't have much time before South Africa are chasing.

It feels 10-15 runs short of par. We've felt getting towards 200 is necessary on this pitch but South Africa did really well particularly Marco Jansen, breaking the partnerships of New Zealand. It's all about wickets in T20 cricket.

  20. NZ 175-7published at 20 overs

    Neesham 23 (15), Henry 9 (8); Bosch 1-34

    Slammed over mid-off!

Jimmy Neesham finishes the innings with a four, hitting powerfully over the ropes with the fielder up.

Not the worst score for New Zealand, but it could have been a fair bit more after their flying overs in the powerplay and the 74-run partnership between Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell.
