As always, we've got an episode of the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast for you to enjoy.

Boxing expert Bunce travelled to Sheffield to speak with Lauren Price about the unconventional path she took to become the unified welterweight champion and her plans for the future.

There's also a bit of insight from trainer Rob McCracken and coach Richie Woodhall.

It's not just former boxing champions here in Cardiff tonight.

Former World Darts champion Gerwyn Price is here fresh off his Premier League darts win in Manchester on Thursday.

Price was beaten at this very venue in the semi-finals by Luke Littler just four weeks ago but will be hoping for more Welsh success tonight.

    1	Katie Taylor	Light-welterweight (C) 2	Claressa Shields	Heavyweight (C) 3	Mikaela Mayer	Welterweight and light-middleweight (C) 4	Gabriela Fundora	Flyweight (C) 5	Chantelle Cameron	Light-middleweight 6	Amanda Serrano	Featherweight (C) 7	Dina Thorslund	Bantamweight 8	Lauren Price	Welterweight (C) 9	Yokasta Valle	Mini-flyweight (C) 10	Ellie Scotney	Super-bantamweight (C)

Victory for Lauren Price might not do much to boost her standing in the women's pound-for-pound rankings, but her next fight could be key to proving just how good she is.

With number two-ranked Claressa Shields and Mikaela Mayer, ranked third, in her sights - Price could be on the rise very soon.

Shields recently challenged Price to "prove her greatness" by facing her and Mayer appears more than happy to take on the 31-year-old.

  6. Price makes her entrancepublished at 20:30 BST 4 April

Lauren Price must be desperate to get back in the ring after a 13-month absence and she gets to do that tonight in front of a home crowd.

Lauren Price will tell you, as all boxers do, that she isn't looking beyond the opponent set to step in the ring with her later tonight, but that's not how it works for the rest of us.

We're already wondering what could come next for the 2020 Olympic gold medallist.

A bout with WBO welterweight champion Mikaela Mayer and the chance to become undisputed seems the sensible option, but the American claims Price "fumbled" that opportunity last summer.

"Since I won the world title at welterweight I've always talked about unifying, I've always put her [Price] in the handful of names that I want to fight - she knows that," said Mayer.

"She fumbled that and then we've tried to make that happen since. I've been sitting here waiting. I'm still ready. I'm still waiting."

BBC Sport boxing journalist at O2 Arena

We are still at least two hours away from the main event and there are a number of empty seats at London's O2 Arena. I'd guess it's about half full, and I'm being a bit generous there.

Derek Chisora has enjoyed some great nights in this venue - this will be his 11th time fighting at the O2. Even if we don't get the 20,000-capacity arena completely full, I'm the 'War' Chisora faithful will make themselves heard.

The atmosphere is absolutely electric in the Utilita Arena.

We had a bit of a wait here after Teo Alin's win over Kane Shepherd but the crowd have wasted no time getting their voices back.

Huge boos for Gully Powar, and when the words "fighting pride of Penygraig, Wales" were uttered for Rhys Edwards, the place hasn't quietened since.

The pair have just completed three rounds and it's high-tempo stuff.

  10. Price is 'best female on planet'published at 20:24 BST 4 April

    Price v Pineiro

Now we know that undisputed heavyweight champion Claressa Shields definitely is in town to cast an eye over Lauren Price.

The pair were caught in a social media war of words earlier this year and Shields, who is a five-weight world champion and has reigned undisputed in three of those, is running out of opponents, but Wales' Price is regarded as someone who could offer a serious challenge.

Boxxer chief Ben Shalom, who promotes Price, believes his fighter can become the first woman to beat American Shields.

"We don't believe the weight difference will stop that fight," said Shalom.

"Lauren wants Claressa Shields. She wants the biggest name in women's boxing and Claressa is that. That's why we want to make it.

"We believe Lauren is the best female on the planet. I believe she is the only fighter that could come close to Claressa."

    Price v Pineiro

Thursday's news conference between Lauren Price and Stephanie Pineiro was extremely respectful.

Puerto Rico's Pineiro claimed she "has the tools" to become the first woman to beat Price but the unified welterweight champion insisted she has "heard it all before".

Three-time snooker world champion Mark Williams is here with his two sons at the Utilita to watch Rhys Edwards.

He's joked that Rhys possibly isn't the hardest in his family having watched his brother Iestyn in a bare-knuckle fight.

Williams has praised the atmosphere at the arena, saying: "It's brilliant, four of five thousand it should be great."

Lauren Price returns to the ring for the first time in 13 months tonight and it's set to be her first time fighting in Wales in almost 24 months.

Price beat Natasha Jonas by unanimous decision in her most recent outing in March 2025 to add the WBC and IBF titles to her collection.

The 31-year-old has only competed once previously as a professional in her homeland and that night will bring back fond memories.

In just her seventh bout, Price earned a points win over Jessica McCaskill to become the WBO welterweight world champion.

  15. We're back!published at 20:03 BST 4 April

Right, time to turn the tempo up on this live text as the action begins to get under way on BBC Two.

We've got two fights still to go on this card with Rhys Edwards up next against Gully Powar in the co-main for the British featherweight belt.

Then it's on to the main event with Lauren Price defending her WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight titles against Stephanie Pineiro.

  16. Alin upsets Shepherd and calls out Mayweatherpublished at 20:01 BST 4 April

    Price v Pineiro

    Gareth Bailey
BBC Sport Wales at the Utilita Arena

The crowd are stunned at the Utilita Arena as Cardiff native Shepherd suffers the first defeat of his career.

Teo Alin from Cookstown, Northern Ireland stopped him in the fifth round.

After a clash of heads in the fourth round Kane Shepherd was cut but Alin finished the job minutes later.

His perfectly timed right hand floored the Welshman at the perfect moment as Shepherd had dropped his gloves to throw his own shot.

Alin has jokingly called out Floyd Mayweather as he speaks to our ringside reporter Molly Stephens.

Not sure Mayweather would be eligible for the Celtic super-featherweight title bout if he wanted it to be fair, unless he's got some Isle of Mann heritage I don't know about.

Port Talbot's Morgan McIntosh is the new Welsh area welterweight champion after a hugely impressive stoppage of Lewys Parfitt in the third round.

Arguably it could have come in the second round with Parfitt just responding to his feet at nine on the count.

But a thunderous right hand saw Parfitt hit the deck and his team throw in the towel.

The only bout of the night that was likely to split the Welsh fans, the noise was electric in here with the first fight that finished within the distance on the night.
