That may be the most conservative call I've ever seen from Sean Payton, as he opts for a punt from the Buffalo 40-yard line.
It's fourth and nine so going for the conversion to move the chains was probably a bif far fetched, but it would have been a 58-yard field goal try for Wil Lutz which at this altitude is surely in range?
The right decision?

He'd also gone six post-season games without a turnover and has now had three in this game with two fumbles and the pick.
Is the pressure telling?

Josh Allen trying to be Superman in every game is going to come undone. Seems to be potentially happening now. It's about time he and Buffalo learned he doesn't have to be and get him help or he'll keep coming up short

Repeatedly before the season started, I called Broncos going to the Super Bowl because of this defence. Offence wins games, defence wins championships

Image source, Getty ImagesNo he can't! Just two plays after the interception and Josh Allen hands it right back with an ill-advised deep ball that is picked off just outside the end zone by PJ Locke.
That's a bit like the old Josh Allen who tried to force things and do too much too soon as he really didn't need to go for broke there with plenty of time left in the game and down just six points.
Bo Nix threw a bad interception, it's like Josh Allen did the 'hold me beer' trick and went one better.

Bo Nix looks to throw on a crucial third down, but it's a poor decision as there's no Bronco there and the ball goes straight into the hands of rookie defensive lineman Deone Walker.
All of a sudden, Buffalo have the momentum. After being flat on the floor, they've scored a touchdown and now got the turnover that puts them back in the driving seat.
Can Josh Allen make them pay?

Image source, Getty ImagesIt's now a six-point game so those two Josh Allen fumbles are telling. They resulted in two field goals and that's now the difference.
Allen is fully capable of making amends, but Buffalo could do with a stop on defence here to get the ball back ASAP.

That was a bit more like Buffalo Bills football - tight formations, feeding James Cook and then Josh Allen using his tight ends in the passing game to move the chains.
Once in the red zone, Allen just finds Coleman with a short pass over the middle, and the receiver turns nicely then has to scramble and extend his body to get over the line.
After such a bad spell for Allen, he led that drive superbly and, despite all their troubles Buffalo are now only six points behind.

That's why Denver went and got Talanoa Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw, because they felt like they didn't have those guys to hit Buffalo in last year's play-off game and got ran all over. They needed some physical toughness and they got it.

Talanoa Hufanga levels Dawson Knox with a savage hit that almost knocked him out of his pads. James Cook keeps the drive going though with an 11-yard run as Buffalo get into the red zone.

Denver have no sacks allowed, one penalty and zero giveaways... that's what we call a recipe for success in the play-offs.
That's really what you're trying to do, do the fundamental things correct, and the Broncos are winning that battle by a large margin so far.

Better from Josh Allen - he's almost sacked again but escapes this time and finally finds Dalton Kincaid, with the tight end taking the short catch 25 yards for a calming first down for Buffalo.
That one catch puts Kincaid top of the Bills' receiving chart in the game - that may be a hint of how to play things going forward. Feed the tight ends.

Image source, Getty ImagesThis is why you can't get behind against this defensive front.
What was that on the play clock, [two fumbles in] three minutes in game time?
And three turnovers in five drives? You can't win a play-off game with that.

Image source, Getty ImagesYep, it's just a bluff, but you never know with Sean Payton so it's good discipline by the Buffalo defence - also great defending as well as just allowing three points from that field position is a huge win for them.
Wil Lutz makes no mistake from 33 yards so it's still some bonus points for Denver, but a touchdown there could have been curtains for Buffalo.
So instead of being in a huge hole they're just in a medium sized hole.

Fourth and four after a run is stopped, Denver down on the Buffalo 11 and Sean Payton keeps the offence out there, surely just trying to draw them offside?

Image source, BBC SportOh, watching this feed brings back painful memories of watching teletext back in 1992 as the Bills narrowly defeated Denver in the AFC Championship game. I’d just moved to the UK, having grown up in Buffalo, and still suffered from (Scott) Norwood nightmares. Please let this be the Bills’ year!

Does that count as a commentator's curse? Josh Allen gets smacked by Nik Bonitto and fumbles the ball - the Broncos take over deep in Buffalo territory with fantastic field position.
That's two fumbles in three plays by Allen.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton: "They're a good second half team but so are we. We felt that coming in, the bye week doesn't help you in the first half, but it helps you in this half."

Josh Allen gets an immediate chance a redemption as Buffalo get the ball first. Don't go anywhere as both of these sides have been strong second-half teams with big comebacks to their names.
This will not be a boring half...

Bo Nix has been taking what the defence gives him.
Last year Buffalo pressured him at the highest rate all season. They came out today with only a few pressures. They've played some zones, they've mixed up the coverages, but Nix has been taking advantage of that and getting through progressions, checking it down, throwing it up the seam.
Expect Buffalo to ramp up the pressure now as soon as Nix starts to get comfortable, thinking it's not coming.
