HT: Buffalo Bills 10-20 Denver Broncos

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott on the Josh Allen fumble: "We tried to be aggressive, possibly a layered shot out of bounds and if it wasn't there, throw it away, but you've got to take care of the ball."

On the Lil'Jordan Humphrey touchdown: "We were playing in coverage, we had a back-side safety on it, and he over-ran it."

Both quarterbacks have been impressive in that first half, but you have to give it to Bo Nix with those 150 passing yards coming against Buffalo's top-ranked pass defence - that's some statement.

That late fumble cost Buffalo three points but all that will do is fire up Josh Allen even more to make something happen in the second half, and when he wants to make things happen they usually do.

Josh Allen does not make many mistakes but that was a bad decision.

I cannot overestimate the emotional aspect of that for Josh. It was a monster play, two turnovers now for Denver.

Two plays at the end of the half have turned an even game firmly in Denver's favour, and that could be huge in deciding who wins this one.

Firstly Bo Nix not settling for just a field goal and hitting Lil'Jordan Humphrey for a 29-yard touchdown - a play that definitely caught Buffalo out as they were defending like a team expecting a field goal set-up.

Then Josh Allen just trying to do too much right at the end, trying to keep a play alive that was going nowhere and coughing up possession, allowing an extra three points from the field goal.

  6. field goal

Buffalo Bills 10-20 Denver Broncos - second quarter

Denver take full advantage of that Josh Allen mistake as Wil Lutz boots a 50-yard field goal right on the buzzer to give the Broncos a 10-point lead going into half-time.

How big could that be come the end of the game? It was 10-10 with 22 seconds left in the half yet Buffalo head back to the lockerooms 10 points down.

  7. Fumble!published at 23:02 GMT 17 January

Buffalo Bills 10-17 Denver Broncos - second quarter

Oh dear - Josh Allen goes on the run in the dying seconds of the half, but coughs up possession as he fumbles the ball and that gives Denver the chance to get one last shot in as they recover in the Buffalo half.

And they do! Bo Nix goes for broke and launches a ball into the end zone where Lil'Jordan Humphrey is there in space and this time he takes the catch on the run and hangs on for the touchdown.

Buffalo Bills 10-10 Denver Broncos - second quarter

Bo Nix hits Marvin Mims again again to move the chains, this time for 15 yards to get to the Buffalo 29.

Just 30 seconds left in the half now, Denver looking likely for the field goal but may just take a shot in the end zone first.

  10. Injury woes for Denverpublished at 22:49 GMT 17 January

Buffalo Bills 10-10 Denver Broncos - second quarter

More bad news for Denver as receiver Troy Franklin has a hamstring injury and may not return to the game, while Pat Bryant is out with concussion.

We could see Frank Crum running a few more routes at this rate...

Bo Nix moves the chains by converting the third down pass to Marvin Mims, who limps away a little after that. The last thing Denver need is another receiver going down - they're still without rookie Pat Bryant who started the game so well but is out with concussion.

    Have your say banner

Come on Denver! I need the Bills OUT! They are our divisional rivals and I really hate them so badly. I also hope the Patriots make the Super Bowl - another divisional rival but am sure the Boston boys can do it.

Seems a tad inconsistent that, John!

Two minutes left in the half and just before the break Denver come up short so will face a crucial third down and three when we return.

Still getting over that Frank Crum touchdown - we just love a big man scoring, and he's a very big man!

    Good hands too.

Matt Prater makes no mistake against his former team as he slots a field goal from 33 yards out to level this game up.

Keon Coleman looked to have dropped a touchdown pass at the back of the end zone but it wouldn't have counted anyway as there was a penalty against Buffalo - but it again shows how neither side is exactly overflowing with receiving talent.

Buffalo Bills 7-10 Denver Broncos - second quarter

BIg, big third-down conversion from Buffalo. Needing 10 yards to keep the drive going, Josh Allen delivers a perfect ball to Brandin Cooks, who did a number on Pat Surtain of all people to get free just beyond the marker.

Cooks has come from nowhere this season to almost be Buffalo's top receiver in the play-offs. Both teams are struggling with wideouts I think it's fair to say.

  17. Sack!published at 22:32 GMT 17 January

The Denver pass rush finally gets in and takes Josh Allen down for a loss of seven yards.

    Tony Romo

On Bills centre Connor McGovern being evaluated for concussion: "That is big too, because if you bring in Alec Anderson at centre, which Buffalo have done, he's usually an extra tackle. They wanted to do that today and go big [on the offensive line] so that's going to hurt them a bit for some of their packages."

  19. Postpublished at 22:31 GMT 17 January

Buffalo Bills 7-10 Denver Broncos - second quarter

Buffalo get over midfield as Josh Allen throws a short pass to James Cook and he finds himself in all kinds of room down the right sideline for a gain of 24.

Dawson Knox then moves the chains with another first down - in Knox and Dalton Kincaid, Allen has two great tight ends to throw to.

I'd expect to see more of those two tonight.

James Cook is on his toes to sidestep a few tacklers to nearly get a first down - just a yard or so to go and yet again Josh Allen gives it the tush push to ensure they move the chains.
