Houston Texans 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers - second quarter

The Steelers have lost their past six play-off games but the scheduling may have done them a favour as they've got an amazing record playing at home on Monday nights.

Home fans in Pittsburgh have seen them win their last 23 Monday night home games, with their last defeat coming way back in October 1991 against the New York Giants.

Houston Texans 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers - second quarter

CJ Stroud fumbles the snap and has to go get the loose ball right at the edge of his own end zone, but then manages to just throw it away to avoid a big loss of yardage.

The snap wasn't that bad - that's on the quarterback.

Pretty quick quarter to start sus off in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers have a slender lead in an even contest - both teams running exactly the same amount of plays (14) and just two seconds difference in terms of possession.

The Texans have made the bigger individual plays offensively with Pittsburgh forcing the game's only turnover, but failing to score any points off it.

A tough defensive battle as expected so far.

DK Metcalf does everything perfectly, except make the catch.

Those opportunities against these two cornerbacks, you don't see those kind of uncontested throws very often against this group.

  7. Steelers stumble after fumblepublished at 01:54 GMT 13 January

Houston Texans 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

Pittsburgh go three and out after the turnover so fail to take advantage - this time it's all down to DK Metcalf who drops a rather easy catch that would've been enough to get a first down.

Big let-off for Houston that one.

  8. Turnover! Steelers get the ballpublished at 01:50 GMT 13 January

Houston Texans 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

Houston get tricky with a bit of a flea flicker as CJ Stroud hands the ball off but then gets it back on a pitch, but then he takes too long looking for a receiver and Pittsburgh defence knock the ball out of his hand and then dive on it for a sack fumble recovery.

It's Jack Sawyer who hits Stroud and forces the ball out, with Yahya Black there to gether up the recovery.

Big play from the Steelers defence.

One of the match-ups is Joey Porter on Nico Collins. Porter's been travelling with him on just about every snap, but that doesn't mean that he's isolated one-on-one.

He is at times getting help from a safety and when he knows he's getting that, he's able to play a lot more aggressive against Collins.

I agree with that. We're in a time when a lot of offences would be going for it in this situation, but points are going to be at a premium tonight and when it's two defences who are capable of dominating their opponent, get 'em when you can.

And it's a good decision as Chris Boswell is about as reliable as they come and he slots the field goal from 32 yards to give Pittsburgh an early lead.

Houston Texans 0-0 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

Aaron Rodgers misses a couple of throws, then hits Marquez Valdes-Scantling but not enough to move the chains and there's no messing about with going for it here from Mike Tomlin as he'll send out the field-goal unit.

  15. Postpublished at 01:38 GMT 13 January

Houston Texans 0-0 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

Kenneth Gainwell moves the chains with a six-yard run which included an outrageous cutback as he stopped on a dime before changing direction.

He sent a couple of Texans defenders the wrong way with that move.

Houston Texans 0-0 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

First play of the drive and Aaron Rodgers rolls out to his left on some spritely 42-year-old legs before firing a 25-yard pass to an open DK Metcalf to start this possession with a bang.

Metcalf then makes his mark on the next play as he draws a 14-yard pass interference penalty to move the sticks.

  17. Get Involved - Houston can't lose?published at 01:33 GMT 13 January

    NFL

An American lad’s just assured me Houston “can’t lose.” Which, statistically speaking, is the clearest sign they’re about to. Nine wins on the bounce is impressive, but my transatlantic curse remains undefeated. Pittsburgh to end the fairytale. Invest accordingly.

Houston Texans 0-0 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

TJ Watt (who else) with the pressure as CJ Stroud just throws it away on third down so Houston will have to punt it away - had a look of intentional grounding on that but Stroud gets away with it.

It's not the best punt in the world either so a little bit of breathing space for Aaron Rodgers when we return.

  19. Big play!published at 01:28 GMT 13 January

Houston Texans 0-0 Pittsburgh Steelers - first quarter

It's only early but that's a huge moment for Houston as CJ Stroud faces a third down on his own 15 but launches a 36-yard pass for Christian Kirk who takes in a brilliant diving catch to flip the field in one fell swoop.

  20. Postpublished at 01:27 GMT 13 January

CJ Stroud with a dangerous tight window throw towards Nico Collins, with Joey Porter Jr draped all over him.

Collins can't catch it and the ball bobbles up, is almost picked off by Pittsburgh but drops to safety.
