The Binnian Tunnel - Photos, then and now

| (1) This is what the opening looked like at the Dunnywater end. Note the concrete works going on which would form the tunnel mouth which can be seen today. Of course before any work could start in the Annalong Valley a road had to be built to the site. |

(2) At the Dunnywater entrance a team of carpenters built shuttering moulds from planking, into which conrete was manually poured by wheelbarrow by teams of men. This was to build the weir and the intakes. |

and Today...
| Four present-day views of the water works at the Dunnywater Entrance to the tunnel. The mountains that can be seen in the background are Long Seefin (Left pair) and Slieve Lamagan (Right pair). |

The two photographs below were taken 80 years apart. The B&W picture shows the valley just before the dam was built. The second picture was taken from the dam wall. |
