I’m here in Pudsey, testing out the kit that will allow me to bring you the final four and a half miles of Sarah’s run - live!

With a camera and a microphone strapped to my chest, I will be running behind Sara and reporting live from the final leg of the route so you can see her cross the finish line.

Let’s just hope the tech (and me) can stand the weather.

While I’m definitely not looking forward to the cold Yorkshire air and harsh rain, I am certainly excited to be part of the final moments of this monster challenge that Sara has undertaken.

I’m sure it will be an emotional end to an incredible journey - not long now.

    Trevor Nelson
    BBC Radio 2 Presenter

She’s got just a few miles to go, she must be running off fumes, nothing else because I can’t believe she’s got any energy left. But one of the most determined people I’ve ever known.

I’ve just arrived at the finish line in Pudsey, and it is very wet!

I’ve travelled here from Salford and it’s pretty much chucked it down the whole way, which gives you a sense of the brutal weather conditions Sara’s had to endure - not just today but all week.

We’re tracking Sara’s progress, and you'll be able to watch the end of this epic challenge by pressing watch live above.

But anything could happen this afternoon.

When Sara spoke to us this morning, she told us she had no fuel left in the tank, so this last stretch is going to be really tough.

But what a reception she’ll receive when she arrives. Mel C has been warming up inside, getting ready for a special performance, and Sara’s husband Ben is here waiting for her - that will be a huge support.

I’ll be speaking to him and will also be joined by a couple of experts who will be able to explain the mental and physical toll on Sara’s body.

    Sara Cox
BBC Radio 2's Great Northern Marathon Woman

I'm just in a lot of pain. Just my ankles... my shins and my ankles are just battered and swollen. But thank you to everyone who's donated, an incredible amount of money has come in. Thank you so much, that's really helped. That really boosted me up when we had the 6 million mark at the last pit stop. That really got me back out on the road so thank you so much!

  9. "In between all the pain it's been a little hit of happiness."published at 14:03 GMT 14 November 2025

Jeremy Vine has been talking to Radio 2 listeners about the moment where Sara spoke about how she doesn't like the phrase 'women of a certain age' when talking about women over 50.

Yesterday she told Trevor Nelson: "We are not women of a certain vintage, we are not women of a certain age, we are women over 50 and it’s just the beginning when you get to 50. I am loving being 50!"

Now, speaking to Jeremy, she says: "It's done, it's patronising and insulting. The incredible support, the amount of women on the road, it's like a mirror image. I'm just locking eye contact with them and there's a moment between us, like an energy exchange... It's been pretty magical, in between all the pain it's been a little hit of happiness."

And lots of Radio 2 listeners agree! Jeremy spoke to Sasha earlier who said: "I am not a woman of a certain age, I am a woman who is certain. It's a very different thing!"

  11. The Singing Striders join Jeremy to cheer Sara on.published at 13:48 GMT 14 November 2025

Earlier today on Radio 2, Jeremy Vine spoke to The Singing Striders - a group of people who love to run (and sing!). They regularly turn up to rmarathons to give the runners a boost along their way by singing.

They did a brilliant rendition of Keep On Running by The Spencer Davis Group for Sara, and let's hope it keeps her running to the finish line! Not long to go now, Sara.

Janet from The Singing Striders spoke about why they've decided to set up the group:

"I'm a runner myself, I've run five marathons now and I know how tough it can be out there, and particularly in the last part when you hit the wall. And having run lots of races myself I thought, wouldn't it be amazing to have a choir, have a singing group that come along and cheer people along and try and motivate runners, especially when they're fundraising? We just really enjoy spurring runners on."

Emma from the group said that Sara has helped motivate her to get out there running: "I do run, every other day I try to run and at the moment I'm pushing myself on by listening to Sara and how she's doing. I can't even run three miles and I'm thinking she's doing 26 miles a day for 5 days!"

And on all this chat about 'women of a certain age' they had this to say... "It needs retiring definitely, we’re just women! We’re all capable of everything, whatever age. I’m training for a half marathon and there’s no reason, for any age, that you can’t get out and do it."

  12. Home comforts always help!published at 13:42 GMT 14 November 2025

Frances has seen Sara Cox just as she was coming out of Bramhope towards Cookridge.

"I wanted to spur her on... It was amazing, and it was a privilege. I got to give her some homemade flapjacks and a banana!

"I've got to be honest, I thought she looked fantastic, she looked on good form. The rain is icy cold, it's bitterly cold, and she looked fantastic."

Sara's making amazing progress - you can follow her on the tracker on the Children in Need website, external.

And as she approaches the finish line we'll be live streaming her journey through the last few miles, so you'll be able to watch live at the top of the page.

  13. Sara's friends of 25 years surprise herpublished at 13:31 GMT 14 November 2025

On Jeremy Vine just now, we heard from three of Sara's best friends who are hiding in the back room of a rugby club to surprise our Great Northern Marathon Woman as she makes a quick pit stop. They've been following along this week and have some lovely words about their friend... yes we haven't stopped crying today.

"We are so proud of her it’s unbelievable. We’re really nervous to see her because apparently she’s completely broken. She’s really in lots of pain.

"Sara is so impressive as a friend, so we’ve all been best mates for 25 years. She is so impressive, she is strong, she’s formidable in every day life. She’s a complete warrior, she’s also genuinely one of the kindest, funniest and most generous people you will ever meet. And this week we’ve been in so much awe of her. She’s not just done an amazing feat and raised so much money, she’s broken down barriers, she’s reminded us that this country is just full of really great and kind people, and it’s just been so uplifting. She is amazing, the Radio 2 listeners - they have done her so proud."

We briefly heard Sara greet her friends, it was emotional. Jeremy has let them have some privacy before we hear from Sara live on Radio 2 soon - make sure you're listening by clicking the button at the top of this page.

I possibly gave Sara more of a surprise than she was expecting because she didn't know who this bloke was who suddenly jumped out from behind a hedge!

  17. "She's starting to love it."published at 13:04 GMT 14 November 2025

Listener Jodie saw Sara run past her in Leathley.

Jodie: It was so good to see her, she was very locked in. She looked great, we thought she might have come by struggling a bit, but she was doing so well.

Jeremy: I think she's starting to love it on the last day, I think she's just so excited now.

  18. Jeremy has been talking to people about completing intense physical challengespublished at 13:00 GMT 14 November 2025

He spoke to Sophie Power, founder of SheRACES, who drew on her experiences running the length of Ireland last year to talk about how Sara must be feeling.

    Quote Message

It's that last bit where you know the finish line's coming, but her body will be so broken down she can't even think about it. And it's so important not to think about the fact it's the end, because as soon as you do your brain starts to pack up, so she's got to keep focusing on keeping the feet going. She's doing brilliantly, this is such a difficult challenge.

  20. The mentality of approaching the finish linepublished at 12:41 GMT 14 November 2025

    Jeremy Vine
    BBC Radio 2 Presenter

Of course the finish line is the key, and the mind changes. It can be positive, it can be negative, you're either thinking, "I've almost done it, that's it!" and you sort of project forwards and your strength goes, or it powers you on.
