  2. Paddy McGuinness's words of wisdom for Sarapublished at 07:35 GMT 10 November 2025

    Paddy McGuinness
    BBC Radio 2 Presenter

It's amazing, because if you do pick up any niggles in everyday life, those niggles would be a hinderance. But when you're doing something like this, the sheer will of the people coming out supporting you and everyone who's behind you in the studio - all that positivity, all that goodwill, you just kind of get through it.

When it comes to the end and you're sat at home and it's all finished and you think back on it, it will be one of the best moments of your life.

  3. "I'm going to give it every bit of welly I've got and try to do everyone proud. "published at 07:34 GMT 10 November 2025

Sara caught up yesterday with Radio 2's Paddy McGuinness, who last year completed his own Ultra Endurance Cycling Challenge for Children in Need.

How was she feeling with less than a day to go until her challenge started?

"It's going to be tough! I think there's going to be a lot of moments where I'm like, 'Where am I?' I'm going to be in the middle of nowhere and I'll just be counting down those miles trying to get to the next pit stop," says Sara.

"But hopefully people will be coming out and giving me a wave.

    Sara Cox and Paddy McGuinness

"Look I feel physically and mentally fit. I think it's just a bit of fear of the unknown now. I know it's going to be hard, but I'm worried that I've underestimated just how tough it's going to be on my feet, my knees, my hips, probably my ears. My runny nose. Basically every bit of me!

"I keep saying it's a terrifying privilege to do something like this so I'm going to give it every bit of welly I've got and try to do everyone proud. And try to raise as much money as possible."

  4. "I've been training a lot and trying to get as strong and fit as possible"published at 07:29 GMT 10 November 2025

During a break from training last week Sara caught up with her Morning Live pals Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones to look ahead to the challenge.

“I feel like psychologically I'll need to know that I’ve done everything within my power to be as ready as possible.

"So I've been training a lot and trying to get as strong and fit as possible.”

And on the support she's received so far?

"People keep saying 'You’re going to smash it Sara.' I’m like I’ll be happy if I just steadily crumble it over the five days!”

When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured & horrified in equal measure. We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!

I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments.

Just like with Vernon and Paddy, I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments. Pudsey has been part of Children in Need for 40 years this year, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by helping raise much-needed funds for children who need it most.

This marks Radio 2's longest-ever challenge in terms of duration, and Sara will be relying entirely on her own two feet – whether walking or jogging - no bikes, no cars, just determination, and a touch of northern grit. All to help raise money for BBC Children in Need.
