  6. Mental strength will be the key to success in this challenge for Sarapublished at 15:24 GMT 14 November 2025

Unfortunately your body isn’t built to do these crazy challenges.

There will be a point when your body starts to break down. Success comes down to how willing you are to suffer. Throughout the week there will be lots of highs, and probably even more lows. How you navigate these moments is crucial.

Courtney Dauwalter, one of the greatest ultra runners in the world, uses a mental exercise when things get really tough that she calls her ‘pain cave’.

She says: "The pain cave is where I go when it physically feels like I can’t take another step. It’s a visual I have of this space in my brain that I go to with a chisel, and I just go to work on making it bigger, which helps to stay mentally tough in those difficult moments - and makes my capacity for suffering bigger.”

Things will get tricky, it’s how Sara react mentally that will be the key to her success!

  7. All the support from the finish linepublished at 15:23 GMT 14 November 2025

There's nothing but words of support and encouragement for Sara at the finish line, as everyone waits to give her the biggest welcome as she completes this incredible challenge of 135 miles over five days, through rain and storms.

  8. Sporty Spice is ready and waitingpublished at 15:22 GMT 14 November 2025

On Radio 2 just now, we heard from Sporty Spice herself.

As Scott put it, "You'll never guess who's here, in a golf club, waiting for Sara Cox... This is a serious sporting challenge so Sporty Spice is here!"

Mel C has been following the challenge, and like all of us, is feeling all the emotions.

"Oh my goodness, do you know what, I'm already emotional. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when she walks through those doors."

She'll also be performing throughout the show on Radio 2.

The weather is not Sara's friend today for the final day of her Great Northern Marathon Challenge.

Storm Claudia is bringing some persistent rain and some strong winds too – a yellow rainfall warning has been issued by the Met Office covering her entire route today.

The rainfall has not given much of a break and has got even heavier as she nears the finish line in Pudsey (or should that be Puddle-sey).

The supporters welcoming her across the line will need their wellies and brollies, and layers – temperatures are a chilly 8C at best. Let’s hope Pudsey Bear keeps his fur dry.

Go on Sara. The BBC Weather team are right behind you and are unbelievably impressed with your superhuman efforts in this awful weather!

  10. Let's take a look at Sara's routepublished at 15:19 GMT 14 November 2025

Sara's Great Northern Marathon Challenge spanned 135 miles, starting from the wild beauty of Kielder Forest on the border of Scotland and England, down to the town of Pudsey in Leeds.

Today's the final leg. Having kicked off the day in Ripley, Sara imade her way through Beckwithshaw, into West Yorkshire and through the busy roads of Bramhope, Cookridge and Horseforth.

Now she's minutes away from reaching Pudsey - go, Sara!

These are the conditions we are working with.

I’m miserable in this cold weather, but imagine what this is like for Sara - she’s doing this for the fifth day in the row.

She’s nearly there, her dry robe is waiting for her at the finish line.

Sara had already raised £6 million before I even arrived, let’s see what we get to. I’m sure it will be something incredible.

"We can’t quite believe that she’s managed to do it, and I know how much she’s looking forward to finishing it, getting home and having a cuppa," he says.

Ben adds that Sara is "obviously an amazing broadcaster - and now an amazing runner - but she’s also a wife and a mum. We’d like to get her back home in one piece ideally.

"She's not just an inspiration to us and our kids, she’s clearly an inspiration to everyone else. That's just because she’s very real... always herself and she’s always challenging herself."

I'm here just outside of New Pudsey, somewhere just outside of Bradford.

You can see all of the people that have turned out to greet her. How incredible is that?

    Tina Daheley
Presenting live from Sara's Great Northern Marathon Challenge finish line

I’m just hearing that Sara is 4km away.

We thought she might be arriving here at 16:00, but it sounds like she might be here a lot sooner.

Sports scientist Dr Barney Wainright says "she’s under a lot of fatigue, she’s trying to use whatever strength she’s got left in her muscles. She's going to be very focused on just putting one foot in front of the other."

Running influencer Hugo Fry says: "You get to a point where the hardest part is just waking up each day and getting the body moving."

"You get to a point where you’re so close you think 'I can’t not finish'. Also the adrenaline and the money raised – that must be a huge motivator."
