  1. Good morning and welcome to the third - and possibly toughest - day of Jamie Laing's Ultra Marathon Man challengepublished at 07:42 GMT 19 March 2025

Five ultra marathons in five days is a huge ask, and Jamie Laing knew this when taking on the challenge. But there's something about day three, hump day, that feels mentally tougher than any of the others.

If he can get past Day 3, he can practically see the finish line on the horizon. But that prospect is still more still 30 miles away, and his body is very, very sore.

Jamie is incredibly tired. He actually told Greg James this morning that he doesn't think he can do this... Listen to his 5.30am voice note below.

    Media caption,

Our Ultra Marathon Man sends a brutally honest voice note to Greg James at 5.30am.

But we know he can do this.

So we'll be following his journey on this page and sending him all the support he needs to get him from Market Harborough to Loughborough on Day 3.

A reminder, you can donate to Jamie's challenge via bbc.co.uk/jamie.

  2. Highlights from Day 2 of Jamie Laing's Ultra Marathon Man challengepublished at 18:09 GMT 18 March 2025

Jamie Laing has now completed day 2 of his Ultra Marathon Man challenge for Comic Relief, running 30 miles from Wyboston to Kettering, passing through Hail Weston, Great Staughton, Raunds and Great Addington, amongst others.

A closer look a the statistics for Jamie Laing's run today

The day started with Greg James announcing the first total amount raised of the challenge - an impressive £22,559. Wanting to play his part though, Greg had a clever scheme up his sleeve.

"I've got two jobs today, make Jamie smile and get that total up" Greg explained to Matt on the line.

His proposal was simple: if the Radio 1 listeners could get the total amount raised over £75,000 then Greg would have Matt Edmondson's beloved scooter crushed, right in front of his eyes.

The Radio 1 listeners (and DJs) were more than happy to oblige, sending in donations to take the total up to a whopping £80,777.

So cherished is Matt's friendship with Jamie, Matt was ready to "let go" of his scooter for the sake of Jamie's challenge.

Matt has really been Jamie's BFF throughout the challenge and we can't wait to see more wholesome moments of friendship and encouragement.

Matt Edmondson has been an absolute dream, he's really kept me going the whole way with his words of encouragement.

Much to the disbelief of many, Jamie was able to power through to today's finish line in Kettering in just over 5 and a half hours.

Waiting on his arrival were Vick Hope and Jeremiah Asiamah, who had more surprises in store for our Ultra Marathon Man Jamie.

First was Jamie's mum Penny, who was so proud of her son for completing another gruelling day of ultra distance running. "I can't believe he's done it. I can't even run up a drive." she said much to Jamie's embarassment.

Other special guests at the finish line included Mayor of Kettering Craig who presented Jamie with a special lanyard to mark his run. "It's a small token of our appreciation" the Mayor told Jamie.

Before rewarding Jamie with his latest total amount raised - a huge £101,216! Surpassing six figures, what a way to finish the day.

All that was left was a session on the massage table with Nick the Physio to ease the stress on Jamie's glutes, calves and a particularly flared up plantar fascia.

Join us tomorrow morning for more updates from the road. Day 3 awaits!

  4. Another surprise for Jamie, it's only the Mayor of Kettering!published at 17:11 GMT 18 March 2025

Cllr Craig Skinner, the Mayor of Kettering joined Vick and Jamie to present Jamie with a gift: a half marathon lanyard. As Vick pointed out, he'll have earned 4 or 5 of those by now!

Craig the Mayor: "It's a small token of our appreciation really, this is something that took place last week, our first half marathon in Kettering. So we'd like to give it to you as a symbolic gift of your struggle."

The funds raised during this challenge for Comic Relief will go towards helping people struggling with their mental health, which is a cause close to both Craig and Jamie's hearts.

Craig: "It's really brilliant and it's great to see it in places like Kettering. Mental health is such an important area at the moment, and people are struggling with finances and there's lots of sad things going on, so it's really great for you to come and provide something positive and really shine a light on that."

Jamie: "There's lots of reasons for doing this, but one of the reasons is that I did have a really tough time. It's one foot in front of the other, keep going. When it is tough just keep on moving forward. And hopefully people here have been inspired by that."

"I'm feeling really broken. Today has been really, really tough."

    Jamie Laing
    Radio 1's Ultra Marathon Man

"We've been talking about how tough day 2 was going to be, it is way harder. Your mind can't comprehend how hard it is... Today was brutal honestly. I think we should just leave it here. We've done enough. Do you know what - why don't we just bring Comic Relief to Kettering and we can just all do it here. It'll be fine!"

Sorry Jamie, three more days to go!

Wow, guys I'm so happy to see your faces. When I could see the little Red Nose Day things outside, honestly it was amazing. And then what was even better was that my mum Penny was standing there. It's the first time I've got a bit emotional, but I held it in because my mum started talking about her drive and how long it was!

Vick & Jerry have arranged a surprise guest for Jamie

Yesterday we had Vick's mum sending in words of support, today we have Jamie's mum surprising him in Kettering. As he finally strode over the finish line, things got a little emotional.

Jamie's Mum: I love you! You can cry now.

    Jamie: No, not yet.

Jerry: How proud are you mum?

Jamie's Mum: I'm so proud of him. I can't believe he's done it. I can't even run up a drive.

Jamie: That's very relatable talking about your drive like that haha.

I know I keep saying this but I just want to say a huge thank you, there are so many people standing here right now who have come out of their homes just to say hi, and take photos, and just be in support.

So I just want to say thank you to all of you who are here. Thank you to everyone who's out on the roads and honking their horns and donating. I know I keep saying it but honestly that is the thing that keeps me going, one foot in front of the other. It's like little moments of magic.

Jamie has just hit the 25 mile mark, so has nearly completed his second whole marathon of the challenge.

Speaking to Matt, he was so covered in sweat he looked like he had stepped out of the shower, barely able to walk, leaving Matt utterly stunned that he could still keep running.

Jamie: "My legs are sort of giving up. There's a weird ligament in your feet called the plantar fascia ligament which I'm well accustomed to and it's really bothering me, it's really flaring up at the moment, it's like walking on glass."

As Matt kindly pointed out, it's not like walking on glass but running repeatedly on it. Ouch!

In a couple of private moments, and there is not the opportunity for many private moments, he's looked me dead in the eyes and said 'I don't think I can do this', and I've had to say 'you can, and you will, I know you will, you just have to take it one step at a time.' Which is very easy for me to say because I'm not running an ultra marathon, nor do I think I could. But he's here and he's doing it.
