  1. Round 2published at 05:34 GMT 13 November 2016

    Woodley v Thompson

Thompson lands with an early combination, so Woodley spins him and presses the challenger up into the side of the cage.  The champion's strength and grappling experience are keeping Thompson tied up and stopping the former kickboxing champion from using his long legs to inflict any damage.

Tyron made up for the lack of significant shots in the opening period of the first round by unleashing a barrage of hits to Thompson whilst he lay atop him on the ground.

The crowd gasped as 'Wonderboy' stood up when the round came to a close to reveal his blood-soaked face.

  3. Round 1published at 05:31 GMT 13 November 2016

    Woodley v Thompson

Woodley lands a succession of liver shots as he tries to break through Thompson's guard, keeping the challenger prone and prevent him from getting up.  Woodley's background as a successful amateur wrestler is proving superior, and he bloodies Thompson's face with a succession of big elbows to end the round.

Poor Wonderboy can't even see his own corner for a second, such is the blood over his eyes...

  4. Round 1published at 05:28 GMT 13 November 2016

    Woodley v Thompson

Thompson has a very odd stance as the first round opens, switching from orthodox to southpaw and back regularly as he looks to land with those notorious kicks.  Woodley blocks a big left high kick, then a low one and takes Thompson down.

Despite being the welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley has been on the receiving end of a verbal ambush from the majority of fight fans throughout the week with his opponent Stephen Thompson receiving most of the praise.

Woodley however, has the fastest title win in welterweight history - and has plenty of power behind his punch to silence the haters.

  8. Woodley v Thompson: Sleeper fight of the night?published at 05:14 GMT 13 November 2016

Woodley v Thompson: Tale of the tapeImage source, BBC Sport

With all the hype around Alvarez and McGregor, the night’s other men's title fight has gone under the radar. Which is a shame, because the welterweight bout could be a classic.

Tyron Woodley makes his first title defence since beating Robbie Lawler for the belt in the summer, and takes on Stephen Thompson.

Woodley is a talented amateur wrestler, while Thompson is a championship level kickboxer, setting up a perfect striker v grappler battle.

Physically they're really well matched, and this could be one to get the MMA purists very excited.

Plus there's an elephant in the room – Georges St-Pierre. GSP’s return to UFC may be in the hands of the lawyers, but even after three years out the sport, the Montreal native is still regarded as one of the greatest in MMA.

Demian Maia has been tipped to face the winner but both Woodley and Thompson have said they’ll happily give the next title shot to GSP if he comes back, regardless of who is next in the queue.

So whoever wins tonight could end up in one of the biggest UFC fights in the company's history...

  9. The stars are out in New York tonightpublished at 05:11 GMT 13 November 2016

The celeb count at UFC 205 is probably as high as the sport has ever seen, with everyone from Demi Lovato to new Spider-man actor Tom Holland at Madison Square Garden.  But in terms of star pairings, it's going to be hard to beat this...
