  3. The men/women in the middle?published at 08:57

Funny that you mention referees, Robbie. I'm still waiting to find out who is peeping the first whistle at 09:14 GMT. Whoever he/she is, Savage has probably been booked by them before.

What I do know, is that former Wales striker John Hartson will be the man in the middle between 19:45 and 20:45 tonight.

Players be warned: Give some lip to Big John at your peril...

  4. 'We need a strong ref'published at 08:54 GMT 3 March 2016

    Robbie Savage
    Sport Relief Five-A-Side captain

"I hope we've got a strong referee because Alan used to referee games in the Premier League..."

  6. Savage benched...published at 08:48 GMT 3 March 2016

Poor old Robbie. He's already been left on the bench.

Oh wait, it's only to sit down and chat to 5 live's Eleanor Oldroyd...

  7. Countdown to kick-offpublished at 08:45

    *30-minute warning klaxon*

We're just half an hour away from the big kick-off. Shearer and Savage are going through their final warm-ups, stretching those hammies and doing a few shuttle runs. Probably.

  8. How to donate to Sport Reliefpublished at 08:44

You can show your support by donating to Sport Relief here, external

£25 could enable a disadvantaged child in Bangladesh to take part in sports activities for a year, improving their health, wellbeing and confidence.

£50 could pay for a disadvantaged young person in the UK to go on a sports coaching course giving them the skills they need to find work.

£70 could train a volunteer to run football and HIV awareness sessions for young people in a South African township.

Any amount, however small, will help make a difference.

  10. Injury-timepublished at 08:42 GMT 3 March 2016

Fingers crossed that Salford's hard-working paramedics won't be needed over the next 57 hours or so. But just in case Shearer (or anyone else) gets crocked then we have medical staff already in place. They'd definitely be busy if Daniel Sturridge was playing...

    Alan Shearer

"I haven't kicked a football for about 18 months because of various injuries. I don't know how my body will hold up. We've got physios here and hopefully I'll be alright!"

  12. "Not just about raising money!"published at 08:34

    Alan Shearer
    Sport Relief Five-A-Side captain

"It's not just about raising money - it's about scoring goals! Looking at the size of the goals they're a little small. I'll be alright but I'm not sure about Robbie..."

Great to hear that Shearer has not lost his competitive edge! Of course he's only joking....

    Robbie Savage

  15. Captain's runpublished at 08:26

The two captains have arrived! Messrs Shearer and Savage are strolling around the pitch, inspecting the pristine surface. Shearer's eyeing up those nets, he's looks happy. Reckon he fancies his chances of bagging a few.

Time for a pre-match interview with BBC Radio 5 live's Eleanor Oldroyd...

  16. Salford awaitspublished at 08:21 GMT 3 March 2016

Forget all those countless Wembley appearances. This is what really makes Alan Shearer giddy. Bet he couldn't sleep last night because of pre-game nerves...

  17. "Weather warnings issued"published at 08:17 GMT 3 March 2016

A look at the BBC Weather forecast for Salford doesn't make for great reading over the next three days, but that won't stop our intrepid five-a-siders...

Weather for Salford over the next three days
  18. Postpublished at 08:14

Look at that beautiful stand! Most National League sides would be happy with that. An army of workman were busy turning this usually vacant piece of Salford concrete into a state-of-the-art five-a-side pitch yesterday.

And in exactly one hour's time one of English football's characters will be kicking off the action. Oh, and Robbie Savage. (Sorry Robbie.)

The ex-Wales midfielder will be joined by former England striker Alan Shearer - our two respective captains - in the centre circle to begin this 57-hour football fest.

  20. Postpublished at 08:06

Hello! Five-a-side matches are usually fun, often energy-sapping, and usually cost you a few quid. And today is no different.

But your hard-earned cash won't be going towards your mate's post-match beer fund. Nope, instead it will be going to a worthwhile cause - Sport Relief.

Sport Relief is brought to you by Comic Relief which, since 1985, has helped countless people thanks to the amazing generosity and fundraising brilliance of the British public.
