  4. Savage struggling?published at 10:43

"Robbie Savage is panting," says our commentator Ian Dennis. That's not good news for the Welshman, He's the first of our 'endurance players' who are putting in a 12-hour shift on the five-a-side pitch. He's 90 minutes in.

Shearer's 5 Live Internal team are 4-0 up at half-time in their 30-minute game against the Commentators. That's punishment for the all the hassle the men behind the mics give their colleagues behind the scenes...

  5. GOAL!published at 10:38 GMT 3 March 2016

    Shearer 5s 12-12 Savage 5s

    Oh dear! Talking of cock-ups...

Here's one that 5 live football commentator John Murray won't want to see again. Unfortunately he is going to see it time and time again, we'll see to that.

Murray lets a weak shot squirm through his greasy grasp. That was more Sepp Blatter than Sepp Maier (see 10:29 entry)...

Shearer's side are now 3-0 ahead in this game, bringing the aggregate score level.

  7. Latest scorepublished at 10:29

    Shearer 5s 10-13 Savage 5s

All over in the FA Schools slot, with Savage's team maintaining their slender lead. Now it's time for a heavyweight BBC clash (and I'm not being size-ist here).

Guy Mowbray is now on the pitch, part of the BBC Commentary team (Shearer) who are playing 5 Live Internal (Savage).

Lanky microphone legend John Murray stands between the Commentary sticks - he models his game on German hero Sepp Maier, according to our commentator Ian Dennis....

  8. Mowbray in the comm boxpublished at 10:27 GMT 3 March 2016

If you're watching or listening to the live coverage at the top of this page, you may recognise some familiar voices. Here's Match of the Day's Guy Mowbray calling the shots from the makeshift comm box. Guy has just handed Ian Dennis the baton...

  11. Close affairpublished at 10:16 GMT 3 March 2016

    Shearer 5s 9-11 Savage 5s

Good contest here between the two sides made up of FA Schools players. Judging by some of the talent I've seen, there might be a chance one or two of them might grace the pitch over the water from here at MediaCity. Some place called Old Trafford?

It's a tight contest so far, Savage's side still just ahead.

  16. Putting in a shiftpublished at 10:04

I can't believe we are almost an hour in and I haven't told you about our 'endurance players'. Time flies when you're having fun.

So...five of our players - Robbie Savage, Alan Shearer, Danny Jones (formerly of McFly fame), Josh Cuthbert (currently of Union J fame, I'm reliably informed) and Rachel Riley (Countdown's number cruncher) - aren't just running around for half an hour like the rest of us mere mortals.

Nope, they are playing for a whopping 12 HOURS! Robbie is already sipping on a well-known glucose energy drink less than an hour in...

  19. Full-time (sort of)published at 09:53

    Shearer 5s 7-8 Savage 5s

The referee gives his whistle three short shrills - and that means the first half-hour slot of the 57-hour marathon is over.

Time for a quick breather, a good glug of water, perhaps a few inspirational words from Gaffers Shearer and Savage.

Next up are two FA Schools teams....

  20. Playing now: Trevor Sinclairpublished at 09:51

Some bloke called Trevor Sinclair has sneaked onto the pitch. Where has he come from? He glided out of nowhere like the ex-Manchester City, West Ham and England winger of the same name. What? It's the same guy? Oh right.
