  1. Killer hat-trickpublished at 15:15 GMT 3 March 2016

    Shearers 5s 61-60 Savage 5s

Who is this guy?! Savage's BBC North West Tonight side have unearthed a gem here. The young chap has bagged five of their six goals - then tries a rabona from distance. Cheeky!

But then Kevin Kilbane edges Shearer's mob back ahead. He puts commentator Alistair Mann right when the man behind the mic says he has bagged two. Killer holds up three fingers....

  3. Bower powerpublished at 15:08

    Shearer 5s 59-57 Savage 5s

Turns out that Match of the Day commentator Steve Bower, currently on loan at sister club 5 Live Commentators, is a bit of a baller. He's bagged two as Shearer's side lead 6-3 at the break, sneaking ahead on aggregate. Entertaining half!

  5. In the drinkpublished at 14:58

Someone fetch the fishing net! One of the 5 live players (we won't dob in the culprit) spoons one over the North West Tonight bar - and the fence. The ball is trundling towards the Manchester Ship Canal...

  6. Killer instinctpublished at 14:57 GMT 3 March 2016

Right then, match 11. And it's another BBC grudge match. The regional journalists from BBC North West Tonight are trying to prove they can mix it on the big stage against national opposition - the 5 live commentators. And the latter team have got former Republic of Ireland international Kevin 'Killer' Kilbane among their ranks....

  8. Full-timepublished at 14:51 GMT 3 March 2016

    Shearer 5s 53-54 Savage 5s

Blue Tuesday's defence leak in a few sloppy goals, rather reminiscent of Manchester City's (the team they cover) defending last night. That allows Red Wednesday to stroll to a 7-2 win, edging Savage ahead of Shearer on aggregate. Tight.

  10. Postpublished at 14:44

    Shearer 5s 53-51 Savage 5s

The referee toots his whistle a couple of times and, if I'm not mistaken, that means it is half-time in the BBC Radio Manchester derby.

Savage's Red Wednesday side are leading 4-1, not surprising seeing as they have a ringer in ex-Red Danny Webber. Maybe the Blue Tuesday team should have drafted in Gerry Creaney.

  13. Controversy!published at 14:29 GMT 3 March 2016

A goal has been awarded in the Red Wednesday v Blue Tuesday Radio Manchester contest, largely at Robbie Savage's insistence. We've got the benefit of the slow motion replays up here and we can confirm that ball definitely did not cross the line.

  17. Hairy momentpublished at 14:11

    Shearer 5s 45-44 Savage 5s

Breaking news! Savage's quiff has tumbled. Somebody had better bring some extra-hold hairspray quick, otherwise this game might be called off until he gets it fixed.

  18. Next up?published at 14:07

Shearer is back in the driving seat, leading 45-43 after his Journalists V thrashed Savage's scribes.

No time for a breather though. Next up are a couple of FA Schools sides. Both Al and Sav are back on the pitch, Robbie scranning a sandwich as he chases after his opposing skipper.

Savage is almost five hours into his 12-hour 5-a-side stint, so we'll forgive him for needing sustenance.

  19. 15 seconds of fame?published at 14:04 GMT 3 March 2016

No wonder that fella who bagged that screamer (see 13:58 entry) is looking pleased with himself - he knows he might end up having his moment of glory shown on Match of the Day 2.

That's because the best goal of the weekend will be chosen by Shearer and Savage and then shown to the nation on Sunday's highlights programme.

No, not the former Soccer AM presenter, but THE Lovejoy, actor Ian McShane. We're not actually sure whether he's here to play football.
