Day Three: Edward Gaming vs Fnatic

Today Fnatic take on Edward Gaming, the series that every fan and expert here at Wembley has been eagerly awaiting. These two teams are some of the closest matched in skill and will very likely go to five, action packed games.

Fnatic will be the crowd favourites today as the European's flagship squad. Taking first seed out of the European League of Legends Championship Series, Fnatic went undefeated in the regular season. In the first week of the Group Stage, Fnatic didn't quite look like the power house many of their fans came to expect but by Week 2, Fnatic had refocused and looked dominating. When you watch the opening ceremony listen out for the crowd's reaction to the team; you may want to turn down your speakers!

Fnatic's team captain is Yellowstar; the only player remaining in this year's World Championship who has featured in every other Worlds so far. He'll be alongside marksman prodigy Rekkles in the bottom lane. Rekkles, while in the amateur scene, dominated every challenger and quickly caught the eye of many top level professional organisations. At the time he was underage and could not compete in the LCS but as soon as he came of age, team offers flooded in. The player you'll want to really look out for today is Huni. After moving to Europe at the beginning of 2015, Huni's fanbase has exploded and as well as being a personality on the team, he is also insanely talented in the top lane drawing a lot of respect from his opponents. Huni's only downfall has been his overconfidence so we'll have to see how he'll react to the 6,000 plus fans in the audience chanting his name today.

While Fnatic will be receiving a ton of support from the audience, there are a lot of fans backing the Chinese players from EDG. Edward Gaming feature Korean imports including 2014 world champion PawN and star marksman, Deft. The team doesn't stop there though; Clearlove is the player many within the scene are touting as one of the best junglers if not the best in the 2015 World Championship.

EDG were placed into the same group as championship favourites, SK Telecom. While blowing H2K and the Bangkok Titans out of the water, EDG lost both of their matches against SKT fairly convincingly. That being said, SKT revealed a lot of their preparation and made a point of showing SKT at full capacity while EDG didn't quite seem like they played all their cards. If that is the case, we'll be seeing many of them played out today against Fnatic.

  8. Why did xPeke swap Fnatic for Origen?published at 13:27

He's safely through to the Semi-Finals with his new team Origen, but this time last year esports poster boy xPeke was part of top EU team Fnatic.

But why did he leave the security of Fnatic and risk everything to set up Origen? Julia Hardy caught up with him to find out.

  11. What happened on Day Two?published at 13:12

Yesterday SK Telecom swept ahq e-Sports Club 3:0 taking every game convincingly. Many of the games AHQ managed to acquire small leads but it wasn't enough to topple SKT's game plan.

In the final game of the day SKT ran a composition where it essentially put AHQ on a timer. If they didn't win within 35-40 minutes the game would become nigh on impossible to secure the victory. That is exactly what happened. AHQ took a couple early champion takedowns but it wasn't enough to keep SKT down and close out the game, giving SKT the breathing room to allow their champion picks to come into their own.

One of our casters (Stress by name, not by nature), is just a teensie bit excited for 2pm to come round.

Given that Fnatic, the leading EU team, are playing today (against China's Edward Gaming - or EDG), there's a lot of Fnatic fans in the audience. Although, we're always happy to be proved wrong, so let us know who you're rooting for today by using the hashtag #bbcesports.
