Mature students - Work

When secure in a job or career, it can be an extremely daunting prospect to leave the security of that. Ask your employer to pay for a course, or combine a course of study with a job. Leaving a job to pursue education will mean you can return to a better paid job, a job with more responsibilities, or to a promotion.

For anyone who is frustrated with their current career, taking a course or degree could be the best step. Many employers can be extremely flexible when it comes to education, either allowing staff to take time off, work part time, or take a career break. Some of the bigger companies will even sponsor and pay for courses if they think that will enhance their workforce and draw in better skills.

The huge variety of courses of all durations and commitments means it is possible to combine even a full time job and study. The Open University for example, works on just this principle. Nobody denies that either taking a break from work or combining work and study is very difficult. It demands commitment and determination. However, the end result is invariably worth the investment and beats thinking ‘what if’.
