Mature students -
Career
Most mature students are either undertaking a course for personal interest or professional advancement. The more qualifications or training one has, the better the career prospects are. There is a very real worry that upon finishing or even starting, that if a mature student is competing with those who are younger they will automatically lose out. This is not the case. There is a definite trend emerging whereby mature graduates are competing for jobs on an equal level, regardless of age, and in many instances age can be seen as an advantage : the mature student will have almost certainly have had professional experience and be accustomed to the workplace.
Undertaking training or learning can be the impetus for a total career change moreover. Many people frustrated in their jobs find that a new qualification can allow them to achieve their dreams or move into an area which had previously been cut off to them.
All institutions will have trained career advisors who can allay fears, offer practical support and advice and give you the confidence to take the plunge.
