Henin-Hardenne's impressive form of late has ensured that the top four spots in the world rankings are occupied by players from Belgium and America.
Eclipsed by her compatriot Kim Clijsters during the latter stages of last year, Henin-Hardenne has stepped up her game this season.
She began the year by reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open, having overcome cramp and a 1-4 final set deficit against Lindsay Davenport in the fourth round to advance.
The 20-year-old's first title of the season came in Dubai before she stunned observers by inflicting a first defeat of the year on Serena Williams in the final of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston.
She then defeated Clijsters in three sets to defend her title at the German Open.
Henin-Hardenne's memories of Roland Garros are mixed.
In 2001, she reached the semi-finals and had a 6-2 4-2 lead against Clijsters before succumbing in three sets.
