Lisa Vittozzi wins Italy's first ever biathlon Olympic gold medal!

She's beaming as she comes down the final hundred metres and raises her arms aloft as she approaches the finish line.

It was a perfect shoot from the Italian and she posts a winning time of 30:11.8. She's more than 28 seconds clear of the rest of the field!

Norway's Maren Kirkeeide, the sprint champion who had to do three penalty laps, takes the silver medal and Suvi Minkkinen (Finland) takes the bronze.

France's Lou Jeanmonnot (three penalty laps) and Oceane Michelon (four) have to settle for fourth and fifth.

Another end with the hammer and another three points for Sweden. That's not good news for Team GB, who had looked in decent shape there.

A gold medal is absolutely deserving for Charlotte Bankes. An Olympic medal was the only thing missing for her.

Her being able to come out here and take home an Olympic medal will mean the world to her.

Rebecca Morrison had a sniff of two there, but her final stone just does not curl and she has to settle for one. Still, we're tied up after three ends.

Charlotte Bankes was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the individual event. Huw Nightingale failed to get past the round of 16.

Now - just a few days after that heartbreak - they can both call themselves Olympic champions.

    Drama in the biathlon!

Sprint champion Maren Kirkeeide led the way into shoot four, leading by around 13 seconds, but two errors means she'll have to do two penalty laps.

Italy's Lisa Vittozzi in second place goes clean to take the lead.

France's Lou Jeanmonnot also makes a mistake...

This is going to be Italy's gold. Surely.

It's absolutely huge. You can't underestimate the meaning of this.

There were three French teams out there, strategically built teams and Huw and Charlotte just have each other.

Huw is so consistent - he can deliver a result every single race there or there abouts with the winner, and that means Charlotte, a mercurially talented snowboard cross racer can reel in the pack.

    GREAT BRITAIN WIN GOLD!!!

Charlotte Bankes was in second for most of that race, but she absolutely storms past Frenchwoman Lea Casta in the latter stages to take the victory.

Huw Nightingale is straight over to Bankes to start the celebrations.

SUPERB. Huw Nightingale keeps up the pace and finishes in second, 0.14 seconds behind Frenchman Loan Bozzolo.

But the big news is that Australia's Adam Lambert crashed out! He comes across the finish line 4.16 seconds later.

Unless Charlotte Bankes crashes, at least a bronze medal is very likely.
