Italian world champion Davide Ghiotto is seriously fading, he won't be in the medals.

But his opponent on the rink, Jorrit Bergsma, is storming ahead. The 29-year-old champion in Sochi in 2014 is rolling back the years and almost looks on for a winning time but ultimately gets provisional second, 1.4 seconds off Polish leader Vladimir Semirunniy.

Ghiotto slides into fourth.

While we have a gap let's jump straight to the men's 10,000 speed skating.

This one's a marathon, not a sprint, the fastest time posted so far is 12:39:08 by Poland's Vladimir Semirunniy.

In second, 6.67secs behind is Netherlands' Jorrit Bergsma. His countryman Stijn van de Blunt is third. Home hero Riccardo Lorello of Italy currently occupies fourth with four skaters left to run.

Charlotte Bankes - a former world champion and three-time world silver medallist - was one of Great Britain's big medal hopes.

However, she was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

She's been speaking to BBC Sport.

Team GB's Sophie Jackson spoke to BBC Sport after today's defeat: "This is not normal for us. We usually finish games off well so that is frustrating. It was only one shot here or there, we have to stay positive and create a better second half next time."

On bouncing back: "We're used to that at this level. We are always analysing in training and in competition so we will try and figure out what we need to do better. We need to focus on the positives as well because we are actually playing well."

Skip Jen Dodds added: "Like Sophie said, it's just a shot here or there and at this level even if you have a 50% or 75% shot, the opposition is going to capitalise 90% of the time and South Korea did that today.

"We need to go back, look at the second half because we are putting ourselves in good positions in the first half. We need to assess; is that the ice changing? We need to have a look at things and see what we can do to turn it around."

On Saturday's match against Canada: "Whenever you play them you know it's going to be a good game. Last year, we had a good game against them and came back second half. We always want to be playing them at the Olympic games and I'm sure the atmosphere will be great."

Look away now Team GB fans! It was an afternoon to forget for the women's curling team who were beaten 9-3 in their round robin match with South Korea.

The pair were tied 2-2 after five ends, but the South Koreans took six points over the next three rounds resulting in the two captains shaking hands with two ends still to play.

Team GB have now lost their opening two matches in the women's curling, having also been beaten 7-4 by China on Thursday.

Run one - done! And it's been a promising showing from Team GB, with all three athletes placing in the top 10.

Tabitha Stoecker is third (+0.18), Freya Tarbit (+0.54) is eighth, and Amelia Coltman (+0.64) is 10th.

It's Austria's Janine Flock who leads the way, posting a track record time of 57.22. The four-time European champion was in the top five in five of her six training runs and has continued that form today.

However, Germany's Susanne Kreher is just 0.02 seconds behind her in second place.

The sliders will be back at 16:48 GMT for their second runs.

The cameras don't do the elevation justice. The start ramp is really steep.

Another messy run. South Korea's Sunjung Hong is full of errors at the top of the track and ends up +1.66 behind leader Janine Flock.

When they're skidding and scratching around, some of the noises coming off the ice sound like clashing lightsabers.

It's a poor run from USA's Mystique Ro, who came second at last year's World Championships.

She's more than a second off the pace (+1.03) in 15th place.

I think it's going to be very difficult. They never came into the Games being top of the rankings. They came in as underdogs, but they still have to have the belief they are good enough to win games.

We are playing Canada tomorrow - as Team GB, we love playing the Canadians. They have to go home, reset, refuel, relax and get some motivation from their coaches.

They need to come out firing and we've got to believe because dreams can always be made at the Olympic games. We like playing the Canadians and we can raise our game from them. I hope we can do that tomorrow.

The problem with this track is that a lot of them are getting caught out on the corners. They are all picking up speed but unstable when they have to move.

It was always going to be tough for the British trio to get amongst the medals in this field but it’s a solid showing from all three - the first time GB have had three British women in the skeleton at the Olympics.

Tabby Stoecker just needs to hope that she’s still in the mix once everyone has raced and she could be a serious outside chance for a medal.
