  5. 20 years, 13 Olympic medals for phenomenal Fontanapublished at 11:43 GMT 16 February

A lot can change in sport over two decades - but not Arianna Fontana's ability to collect Olympic medals.

She had to settle for silver in the women's 500m as the title she won in 2018 and 2022 was taken by Netherlands' Xandra Velzeboer.

It was Fontana's second medal of these Games, after she helped Italy win the mixed team relay earlier this week.

The 35-year-old - the only woman to have finished on the podium in six consecutive Winter Games - now has 13 medals, equalling the tally of fencer Edoardo Mangiarotti as her country's all-time record holder at an Olympics.

And today she could surpass Mangiarotti and hold the record alone.

Not the second run the British team would want! A heavy touch near the top of the track proves seriously costly and Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence’s hopes of a podium look incredibly slim now. Very disappointing.

In other news I think I’m getting better at this picture-taking malarkey.

    Short Track - Women's 1000m

Before the women's 1000m final, we have the B final.

Essentially, it's the five skaters who didn't progress from the semi-final that take to the rink again to decide the overall top 10 standings at these Games.

Very, very disappointing from Brad Hall.

Brad's going to be in 10th place by the end of day one. Those mistakes came within 50 meters of the race.

Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence will be disappointed with that. They've slipped down two places after some costly errors.

As it stands their time of one minute 51.54 seconds is enough for third, but there's eight faster teams still to come in heat two.

  12. Hall and Lawrence have been 'squeezing in medals'published at 11:34 GMT 16 February

    Montell Douglas
    Olympic bobsledder on BBC One

Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence are a formidable team, the whole squad is, especially in the two-man.

Taylor came in a a few years ago now and they've been able to build a team spirit, where they do everything together and that really bodes well when you're doing a team sport, especially when the stakes are high.

Brad is a perfectionist, he really wants to get things done, and Taylor's followed suit.

They've had some really great results, they're squeezing in medals. The German stronghold is no joke and they've been able to come away with bronze medal when no other nation has been able to do that.

Charlotte Bankes also enjoyed last night's celebrations and added: "It was nice to just enjoy it.

"There's a lot of hard work that's gone into it and just to be able to share that with our team and family and also a lot of the snowboard cross and the other athletes - we had a good time."

On all the crowd support during her winning run in the final: "It was unbelievable to be honest. I think it was one of the first I've done with that much crowd and my first Olympics in Europe and we really felt that and felt that support.

"But we felt it as well when it didn't go well in the individuals, and that's what helped us bounce back and gave us extra power to come away with the gold in the team event."

Huw Nightingale, who won gold in the mixed snowboard cross on Sunday with Charlotte Bankes, speaking on BBC Breakfast:

On how he is this morning after celebrating last night: "I wouldn't say I'm 100% but I'm still standing and just happy about everything yesterday. I still can't believe it."

On winning GB their first Olympic medal on snow: "I mean it's still unbelievable. We've trained so hard and thanks to everyone at home and the national lottery for helping us to get here. It was four years since the last games and now we're here, it's an unbelievable thing to say that we can go home with a gold medal.

"It's just a lot of time spent in the gym and on snow that got us here so it's just a great feeling."

On family reaction: "I don't think they believe it as much as we do. I had a fair bit of family coming over and they were all just excited and couldn't believe that we got gold. It was just great to see them all come out and support us.

"Even in the single event, when it didn't go so well, they were there behind us. Sometimes when you don't do so well in the normal World Cups, you've not got your family there but here we did, and we regrouped and it was just a great atmosphere and showed for the team event. We wanted to do it for us and also everyone supporting and helping us."

Imagine having your Olympic hopes crushed because your shoes are too big. Well, that's exactly what happened to Austrian ski jumper Daniel Tschofenig.

He said he felt "extremely stupid" after being disqualified from the men's large hill individual event for wearing oversized boots.

The 2025 World Cup champion was found to be wearing boots that were four millimetres larger than the rules permitted.

"I used new shoes in training which, by the way, I wasn't very happy with, but I kept them," Tschofenig said.

"Unfortunately, I was naive and didn't measure it. Extremely stupid of me, there was just so much stress going on. But rules are rules."
