Moving away from Team GB's dramatic win in the curling briefly - we'll be back to that very shortly, don't worry - and we've had the first of three runs in the men's slopestyle final.

Birthday boy Su Yiming of China, silver medallist in Beijing, leads with a score 82.41, just ahead of Japan's Taiga Hasegawa (82.13) and France's Romain Allemand (76.95) is third.

  3. How does the team sprint work?published at 10:56 GMT 18 February

    It's a team-building day for cross-country.

The team sprint begins with a staggered start, with athletes heading out at 30-second intervals. Teams of two alternate laps for six 1.5km laps, handing over to each other with a tap on the back - like the relay.

    It's all a bit chaotic!

At the second exchange there was less than three seconds separating the top 11 teams, with Finland leading the field.

How on earth have they done that?!

Great Britain have won with the shot of Rebecca Morrison's life. Look at the elation of that team.

This match was gone, they were history at the Olympics. The USA just had to control their last three of four stones. We were all thinking this was going through the motions, but it was one stone, a risky and difficult shot.

They should carry Morrison out on the shoulders of the other three. She kept them in the game, played shot after shot and found something amazing.

Until about five minutes ago, it looked like GB's meetings with Japan later on Wednesday (18:05 GMT) and Italy on Thursday (13:05) were moot. Not any more...

A couple of wins against two teams below them in the standings might just squeek them into the semi-finals. Dearie me.

    Who saw that coming!?!

All looked lost for Great Britain but Rebecca Morrison produced something really special and an error by the Americans gives the British rink the win.

Sensational. GB's semi-final hopes are still alive...

    Wow!

How have GB turned that around? The US just needed to keep their shape in that end to win and knock out the British rink but Rebecca Morrison pulls off an astonishing shot and the Americans get their final stone so, so wrong to hand the Scottish quartet and incredible victory.

The first medal of the day will be decided in the women's cross-country team sprint, which is coming up right now.

Sweden were the best team in qualification, almost 15 seconds faster than anyone else so they'll be the team to beat.

The event started with a qualification round, with each athlete allowed two runs.

Their best run scores determined their ranking with the top 12 athletes progressing to the final.

In today's final, they will each have three runs for a chance of an Olympic medal.

They will take to the slope in the reverse order of their qualifying ranking and the best score from a single run determines the medals and placings.

The slopestyle final has begun - and it is wide open. Canada's Max Parrot, who won gold in Beijing, is not competing in Italy, while reigning world champion Liam Brearley is out injured.

So who could grab a place on the podium?

Redmond Gerard squeezed into the final by half a point, but the American won Olympic gold as a 17-year-old back in 2018.

Big air winner Kira Kimura failed to qualify for the slopestyle final, but silver and bronze-medallists Japan's Ryoma Kimata and China's Yiming Su are in the running today.

Su, who turns 22 today, won slopestyle silver in Beijing so he'll be looking to upgrade his medal.

Canada's Cameron Spalding won the World Cup slopestyle title last season, while his compatriot Mark McMorris is going for gold in his final Games after winning bronze at the previous three.

    The slightest glimmer of hope...

Rebecca Morrison draws in her final throw for two to cut the gap, but the US go into the final end with a one-shot lead and the hammer. Surely they've done enough?

After a bruising second round of qualification - there were a couple of hefty falls - the second six finalists for the women's aerials are confirmed.

Chen Meiting is the fourth Chinese athlete to go through, alongside neutral athlete Hanna Huskova, Abbey Willcox of Australia, USA's Winter Vinecki and Tasia Tanner, and Emma Weiss of Germany.

The top six booked their places a little earlier.

The finals start at 12:00 GMT.

I'm sure there will be real disappointment amongst the British curlers and their teams. It's one thing being men's world champions but the pressure of the Olympics looks to have taken its toll

For GB, it's now about hoping for mistakes from the other team. The Americans will know that, and they have the option to play much safer because they have a three-shot lead with two ends to go.

They wouldn't mind giving up two here, that's fine. They would still have a lead going into the final end.

Fear that's it now. Rebecca Morrison can't quite chip off an American stone and gives up a steal of one. Three down with two ends left.

If Team GB do get anything out of this match, and it's a big if, they will consider themselves very lucky because they are not playing very well at all, particularly in the middle.

The US have missed plenty and given Britain plenty of opportunities which they haven't taken.

  20. Snow clearance in Livignopublished at 10:12 GMT 18 February

After the heavy snow of the past couple of days in Livigno, we have bright sunshine today.

But there’s a lot of work going on to clear it and I spotted this truck with a load of the white stuff trundling through the town.

The only road between Livigno and Bormio, the Passo del Foscagno will be closed for a good hour this afternoon for “controlled avalanche mitigation”.

The forecast is for more snow on Thursday and Friday so organisers will have their work cut out to keep the Olympic schedule as it currently is.
