Taylor Fritz has been dealing with knee tendonitis for quite a while now and the issue caused him to miss most of the European clay swing - but only after his team refused to travel unless he took some time to recover.

He seems to be moving alright at the moment.

  3. Cobolli digs deep to holdpublished at 16:35 BST 8 July

A simply brilliant baseline rally ends with a couple of Flavio Cobolli smashes that ultimately prove decisive despite Arthur Fery getting the first one back.

And then Fery sends a backhand into the net to hand Cobolli the game. Big hold for the Italian from 15-30 down.

  4. Fritz holdspublished at 16:33 BST 8 July

    Fritz 4-6 3-2 Zverev*

A superb forehand from Taylor Fritz to take it to 15-15 as he continues to appear impacted by his knee.

However, a lovely sliced shot from Alexander Zverev forces Fritz to fire into the net.

Fritz responds with an ace to level the game again. Then a tidy forehand from the sixth seed puts him in front.

The American digs in to hold to 30 with a superb volley. He is fighting hard here.

    Fery 6-4 5-4 Cobolli*

A Cobolli forehand goes long - 15-30! Is history repeating itself from the first set?

Well, a fine ace down the middle suggests maybe not. 30-30.

  6. 'Fritz has a high pain threshold'published at 16:32 BST 8 July

    *Fritz 4-6 2-2 Zverev

    Peter Odgers
    Commentator on BBC Two

You can sense that Taylor Fritz is struggling with this knee injury.

I mentioned earlier that he has a high pain threshold. As a reminder, he tore his meniscus in his right knee back in 2021. He actually left the court in a wheelchair, but he was at the French Open three weeks later and he was able to play at Wimbledon that same year.

  7. Postpublished at 16:31 BST 8 July

    Fery 6-4 5-4 Cobolli*

A big, big volley on the stretch at the net from Flavio Cobolli to thwart an attempted cross-court pass from Arthur Fery.

But the Fery return is too hot to handle on the following point, 15-15.

Taylor Fritz's strategy definitely has to be going into the Alexander Zverev forehand more than he is doing, if he wants to make his way back into this match.

It feels like Zverev is looking comfortable in a lot of the rallies. He has broken the rhythm by bashing the ball and he is not letting Fritz settle in.

This is exactly the point where Fery broke to win the first set, remember...

  11. Zverev holdspublished at 16:29 BST 8 July

    *Fritz 4-6 2-2 Zverev

Taylor Fritz is fine to continue after his treatment but he goes long in a rally to give Alexander Zverez the first point of the game.

The world number three then fires in an ace before a magical exchange of volleys from the pair brings cheers from the crowds. Zverev gets the better of the rally before a miscued overhead shot gives Fritz a point.

Fritz goes long in the next point and Zverev holds to 15 in the best game of the match so far.

  12. Fery holdspublished at 16:29 BST 8 July

    Fery 6-4 5-4 Cobolli*

A very good backhand cross-court from Flavio Cobolli keeps Arthur Fery honest in his latest service game.

But Fery remains unperturbed, his now-trademark accuracy forcing more mistakes from the Italian into the net.

Cobolli is a bit unlucky with a return at 30-40 down that drifts inches long but it's another impressive hold by Fery.

  13. 'This is a new Arthur Fery'published at 16:26 BST 8 July

When you haven't played against somebody [very much], although they know each other from juniors, Cobolli will know little bits about Arthur but he won't know Arthur Fery like the one playing here at Wimbledon.

This is a new Arthur Fery, a different level Arthur Fery.

  14. Cobolli holds, levels againpublished at 16:25 BST 8 July

    *Fery 6-4 4-4 Cobolli

Arthur Fery isn't just getting the ball back in his return games, he's testing Flavio Cobolli with deep accuracy.

The Italian flounders but a really risky wide seconds serve pays dividends to get him back to 30-30 - and he booms down an ace next point on his way to holding.

You've been sending us your questions during Wimbledon 2026 and we've been trying to find answers to some of them.

Aly in Ayrshire asked: When men are serving, they are passed three balls which they look at and discard one of them - how do they choose which balls to keep?

    Jamie Murray has the answer:

All players will take three or maybe four balls to choose from before serving. The reason they do that is because they want the smoothest, newest ball as it will fly quicker through the air, which will help them with their serve trying to get more free points.

  17. Fritz holds but knee a problempublished at 16:22 BST 8 July

    Fritz 4-6 2-1 Zverev*

That was Taylor Fritz's easiest hold of the match so far as Alexander Zverez can't respond.

A sixth ace of the match wins the game to love.

However, the physio is now on and in discussions with Fritz about that knee.

  18. Fery holds to lovepublished at 16:20 BST 8 July

    Fery 6-4 4-3 Cobolli*

Arthur Fery is really dictating play behind his own serve.

Forcing Flavio Cobolli deep behind the baseline regularly.

A couple of aces seal a fantastic hold to love for the Brit.

  19. Zverev holdspublished at 16:19 BST 8 July

    *Fritz 4-6 1-1 Zverev

Taylor Fritz still appears to be struggling with his knee but an arrow of a forehand wins him a point with one of the shots of the match so far.

However, Alexander Zverez is ruthless as he holds to 15.

  20. 'Cool, calm and collected'published at 16:19 BST 8 July

    *Fery 6-4 3-3 Cobolli

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC One

There is no doubt that Flavio Cobolli is looking a little flustered here. He is the one with big match experience, but Arthur Fery is appearing more cool, calm and collected.

He was given the opportunity to put pressure on the Italian's serve there once again.
