One of the key things for Arthur Fery in the early stages of this contest was to get the crowd involved with a positive start and hopefully unsettle Flavio Cobolli.

We saw the Italian become annoyed with the noise during a brilliant exchange a few games ago - and the home favourite is doing a good job of containing the ninth seed so far.

    *Fery 4-4 Cobolli

Flavio Cobolli cruises to 30-0 with a couple of good first serves and then crushes an inside-out forehand winner off a moon-ball second-serve return.

Arthur Fery says "anything you can do, I can do better", dispatching a pinpoint cross-court forehand for 40-15.

Cobolli shanks one off his frame for 40-30 but holds his nerve to keep the first set on serve.

When you add the heat to the nervous tension of being out on Centre Court, it is going to be a physically and emotionally demanding game for these two players.

That was a massive game for Arthur Fery to come through after going down 15-40.

  4. Zverev breakspublished at 15:43 BST 8 July

    Fritz 1-2 Zverev*

Both men seem to be a bit anxious early on here and Alexander Zverev manages to return well to get to 15-40 and earns himself two break points.

Taylor Fritz delivers a much better serve to survive one break point but it was sloppy tennis again on the next point.

A weak shot goes into the net to give Zverev the first break and put him in control of the first set.

    Cor, it's a scorcher!

My usually-reliable weather app says the temperature is 34C, so no wonder both players grab the ice towels at the changeover.

Fans around the media seats are fanning their faces, including one woman with a Taylor Swift-themed 'Shake It Off' abanico.

Tellingly, the patch of seats in the sun - opposite the chair umpire - is wisely sparser than the rest of Centre Court.

  6. 'This isn't uncharted territory for Cobolli'published at 15:42 BST 8 July

Flavio Cobolli just seems to be growing into this match a little bit now.

Having that recent memory of reaching a Grand Slam final at Roland Garros will obviously give the Italian plenty of confidence that this isn't uncharted territory for him.

Flavio Cobolli has a look at a second serve on break point but can't capitalise. Cramped for room, he drags his down-the-line forehand wide.

    *Fery 3-3 Cobolli

Oh Flavio Cobolli should have three break points! Up 0-30, he executed a lob into the backhand corner to drive Arthur Fery back and had the opportunity for a smash winner, but planted the ball straight back at the Brit.

A couple of strokes later, he winds up for a monster forehand but puts it in the net.

Fery fights back to 30-all but is overpowered by the Italian. Break point.

  10. Zverev holdspublished at 15:38 BST 8 July

    *Fritz 1-1 Zverev

Alexander Zverev won the first two points on his serve but then Taylor Fritz responds well.

An unforced error from Zverev sees him hit one well out to give Fritz an early break point in the match.

The German responds to force deuce but then a double fault gives his rival another break point.

But the American can't return the serve. Zverev recovers with two powerful serves to hold. A nervy start but the French Open champion got there.

They are both seeing it like a beachball. At this stage of the tournament, they have played so much tennis and so many matches. But it's coming right off the middle of the strings.

For me, the battle is mainly going to be from the back of the court today. They are both fantastic movers and great baseline players.

It is also going to come down to their serving as well. I will be looking at who can keep that first serve percentage high and who can get some free points on their serve because that just might give them the edge in some of the longer service games.

    *Fery 3-3 Cobolli

That's a couple of times now that Flavio Cobolli has come on the approach and planted a forehand volley into the net. 0-15.

It's an otherwise breezy hold for Cobolli, including two thunderous forehand winners down Arthur Fery's backhand side after the Briton had been dragged off court by wide serves.

Very impressed with Fery, as he has shown mental fortitude, game awareness (attack, defence, change ups) and canny anticipation skills. If his legs aren't already spent with his five setters, he has a great chance against Cobolli!

Rooting for Arthur Fery to stretch his winning run in front of Centre Court and Henman Hill (or should that be Fery Fell).

    Dean, Poland

I think most people are going with "Arthur's Seat" for now as an alternative name for Henman Hill. But any suggestions welcome!

Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk, speaking on Centre Court after knocking out 13th seed Jasmine Paolini to reach the women's singles semi-finals: "It is my first time playing on this unbelievable court and it is obviously a dream come true.

"Winning wasn't even in my plans today, I just wanted to go out, enjoy it and put on a good show. It is always incredible to play in front of a packed stadium and I feel like it is always packed here. Thank you so much guys for your energy today.

"I'm sure people are happy with the weather in London, but we aren't on court. It is back-to-back so I play again tomorrow, but I'm excited to be back here again."

On whether she visited Centre Court before stepping onto it for the first time today: "My coach made me walk here yesterday and I was flabbergasted by this entrance and everything inside. I was saying that I needed a day to recover from what I saw!

"I did like a walk of honour and I sat beside it to take a moment to soak it all in. I was on this court as a spectator nine years ago, I watched Roger [Federer] and it was super special. I'm soaking it all in again now after my win."

    Fritz 1-0 Zverev*

We're under way on Court One and Taylor Fritz takes the first point on his second serve when Alexander Zverev fires back into the net.

Two aces follow before Fritz thinks he has won the game with Zverev's return going long but it was just in.

But it doesn't take long to seal the opening game as he holds to 15 when Zverev returns into the net again.

    Fery 3-2 Cobolli*

Arthur Fery and Flavio Cobolli exchange points for 30-all, the Briton losing his radar on a couple of backhands.

He responds with a well-placed serve down the T which Cobolli, scrambling, can't get back into court, and then drags the Italian from corner to corner across the baseline until his dogged defence breaks down.

    Hold to 30.

  18. 'Cobolli is number one in the tournament on steal scores'published at 15:32 BST 8 July

    *Fery 2-2 Cobolli

    Jamie Murray
Seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC One

Flavio Cobolli is number one in the tournament on steal scores, which is points won in defence. He is very quick around the court as well and he is only behind Arthur Fery in the movement scores, which takes into account the ability to recover court position and defend.

These things obviously give him more opportunities to stay in matches and hang around. For those reasons, this is going to be a very interesting watch. It is going to be a case of who can execute under pressure.

No early breakthrough for Arthur Fery - but his promising start has already got the crowd completely engaged, living and breathing every point with the British wildcard.

The biggest cheers of the day so far followed his arrival at 0-30, but Flavio Cobolli is doing a decent job of managing to shut out the crowd so far.

Arthur Fery is bidding to become the second player to reach the men's singles semi-finals as a wildcard at Wimbledon - after Goran Ivanisevic in 2001. Ivanisevic won the title that year.

At world number 114, Fery has become the lowest-ranked player to reach the men's singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon since world number 144 Nick Kyrgios in 2014.
