Norrie pulls a point back with a well-disguised drop shot from just inside the baseline but a loose forehand offers up the first break points of the third set.

Alexander Zverev hammers a serve down the T and charges onto Cameron Norrie's spooned return, crushing a volley winner from midway up the service box: 30-0.

Zverev holds to love as Norrie misses the court with consecutive forehand returns. The third seed is looking very serious in between serves.

Cameron Norrie is flying, letting out a loud "allez!" as he forces a mistake from Alexander Zverev.

He follows it up with an ace for 40-0 and, although the German gets on the board with a backhand winner, it's a good-looking hold from the Brit.

That's three consecutive games for Norrie.

Norrie has got a great chance here. The energy is up, the crowd are behind him and Zverev looks very down on himself.

    It's looking good for Cam.

Alexander Zverev overpowers Cameron Norrie in an exchange to move to 30-15, but the German then whips a forehand long - and now this is a chance.

A huge fifth point in this game coming up here.

There's still nothing to separate these two in set two!

Cam Norrie pops away a closing forehand to once again edge in front, this time putting himself within touching distance of levelling the match.

Alexander Zverev has kept him at arm's length so far, but this really would be the perfect time to strike.

Cam may not take down the formidable Zverev today but how good is it to see him back playing great tennis and looking like he's enjoying himself out there on court again? Bodes well for the season ahead.

Three-time Australian Open quarter-finalist Elina Svitolina has secured a safe passage into the last 16, defeating Russian 23rd seed Diana Shnaider in straight sets.

The in-form Ukrainian will next play either Elena-Gabriela Ruse or seventh seed Mirra Andreeva - they're due on later.

Elsewhere, home favourite Alex de Minaur looks like he's heading through - he's just clinched the second set against Frances Tiafoe.

With nowhere else to go, Cam Norrie slams a backhand straight at Alexander Zverev, who is looking to pounce at the net.

The British number two quickly raises an apologetic hand, but it gives him 15-30 on Zverev's serve and this is as good an opportunity as he's had of late.

Zverev, perhaps given extra incentive by that close-range strike, is quick to slam the door shut, though.

The body language continues to be very, very positive from Cameron Norrie.

The Briton shakes his fist in the direction of his team as he sends a forehand past Alexander Zverev, before firing in an ace to wrap up a tidy service game.

He's yet to have a look at a break point since breaking Zverev in the second game of the match. Can he now create an opportunity?

Now then, can Cameron Norrie use that gritty hold as a springboard? This continues to be an evenly-matched contest, featuring some lengthy baseline exchanges and fine margins.

Norrie gets on the board at 30-15 and, after Alexander Zverev's seventh ace of the match, is given further encouragement as the world number three nets a backhand.

But that's as close as he can get to making an impression on the German's serve here.

After Cam Norrie fails to take a third game point, Alexander Zverev sets up a shot at a third break point.

But this opportunity also passes him by.

After a sixth deuce, it's Norrie cheering as Zverev overhits. And, as the game enters its 11th minute, the Briton gets over the line!

    That could be huge.

  16. 'Stubborn Zverev'published at 09:40 GMT 23 January

    Andy Lapthorne

After Cameron Norrie wins the point on a second serve...

How many times does that have to happen on a break point before Zverev decides to move forward? That same point has happened five or six times.

Mark Woodforde added: He plays like he is hoping for the opponent to make a mistake rather than trying to go out and take the break point.

    Stubborn.

A first bit of pressure for Cam Norrie to deal with in this second set as he faces up to a break point, but deal with it he does.

A powerful forehand down the line has too much on it for Alexander Zverev to redirect it inside the court.

Norrie saves a second break point and comes out on top of a great rally as he holds his nerve at the net, but frustratingly knocks a couple of forehands long on his first two game points.

If you'd just started watching the match, you'd think Norrie won the first set based off the body language of both players.

Zverev isn't happy with the string tension, he is swapping [racquets] every few games. He looks unhappy for a guy who is a set up and serving lights out.

We're in for quite the morning if Jack gets his wish, that's for sure.

Alexander Zverev restores parity at two games apiece with a couple of booming serves, the second a bullet of an ace clocking in at a speed of 208 kilometres an hour.

I'd be running away from that.
