Ukraine-Russia tension hangs over semi-finalpublished at 14:18 BST
Image source, Getty ImagesThe first of the two women's semi-finals sees Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk face Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva.
After Kostyuk came through an historic first all-Ukrainian major quarter-final against Elina Svitolina and dedicated the match to her homeland, Russia's invasion of Ukraine provides an unavoidable backdrop to this contest.
Kostyuk has regularly denounced the war since Russia's invasion began in February 2022, and criticised athletes from Russia and its ally Belarus who have failed to do so.
"The biggest thing I can do is sit here and talk about [the war] so more people can find out about it and don't get used to this terrible life," Kostyuk said.
Andreeva has consistently attempted to deflect any discussion about the war and did the same again before playing Kostyuk.
"It doesn't matter who I play. I really try to play against the ball that is coming at me," said Andreeva.
