  1. Wilson doubles his leadpublished at 10:50 BST 21 April

    Trump 0-2 G Wilson

Judd Trump looked well on his way to levelling matters but missed a relatively routine blue and his break broke down on 47.

From there, Gary Wilson chipped away at the deficit with a few visits and compiled a fine 40 clearance up to and including the pink to pinch frame two.

Plenty for the world number one to ponder in his chair, 2-0 down.

What a day Tuesday promises to be with world number one Judd Trump, seven-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan and former winner Shaun Murphy all in action.

But, just like yesterday, it is a debutant making an early impression.

Yesterday, 19-year-old Stan Moody stormed into a 3-0 lead over Kyren Wilson, although the 2024 champion's experience proved key as he eventually won 10-7.

Now it is another Yorkshireman in 20-year-old Liam Pullen that flies out of the blocks with a break of 57 to take the opener against 13th seed Chris Wakelin.

  4. Five facts - Liam Pullenpublished at 10:34 BST 21 April

    • Turned professional in 2023 at the age of 17
    • Reached the final of the World Junior Championship in the same year, losing to Stan Moody
    • Was relegated from the Tour in 2025 but bounced straight back on by coming through Q-School
    • Beat John Higgins on way to Xi'an Grand Prix quarter-finals this season
    • Made his first 147 as a pro in UK Championship qualifiers in November
  5. No signs of nerves from Pullenpublished at 10:32 BST 21 April

    Wakelin 0-1 Pullen

Over on Table 1, 20-year-old Liam Pullen has taken the opening frame against world number 13 Chris Wakelin.

Pullen needed a couple of bites at the cherry but Wakelin was ultimately made to pay for a few careless shots.

The youngster notches a 57 break to put the frame beyond doubt and settle any nerves - not that he showed many signs of any.

  6. 'One of toughest draws Trump could have had'published at 10:28 BST 21 April

Judd will have know that Gary Wilson was one of the toughest draws he could have had - and the start Gary has made is just confirming that to him.

  7. Wilson takes opening framepublished at 10:27 BST 21 April

    Trump 0-1 G Wilson

Gary Wilson has not taken long to settle at all.

A fine 77 break gives him the opening frame against world number one Judd Trump.

I said earlier we've not had an upset so far at this year's World Championship - but Wilson certainly has the ability to spring one here.

    Early days yet, of course.

  9. Can Trump add to sole Sheffield success?published at 10:12 BST 21 April

He won't thank me for typing this as he hears it often enough but world number one Judd Trump's haul of just one Crucible title really is on the low side for a player of his ability and renown.

The Bristolian stormed to the 2019 crown in imperious style, avenging his defeat in the final by John Higgins eight years earlier.

A winner of 31 ranking events, the second-most prolific century break maker of all time (behind Ronnie O'Sullivan), the 'Ace in the Pack' must surely add more world titles to that solitary success at some point.

Will he start this year? Well, this first-round meeting will provide fond memories - he beat Geordie Gary Wilson 17-11 in the semi-finals during that memorable cruise to the Crucible title in 2019.

Wilson, a three-time ranking event winner himself, is, however, one of the most dangerous qualifiers, a man many of the seeds will have hoped to avoid.

  10. Can Pullen pull off a shock on debut?published at 10:08 BST 21 April

    Wakelin v Pullen (10:00 BST)

There was understandable focus on the two young English qualifiers reaching the Crucible for the first time this year.

Stan Moody, 19, grabbed plenty of headlines and won plenty of admirers in threatening a shock against former world champion Kyren Wilson on Tuesday - will Liam Pullen, 20, make a similar impact?

To do so, he will have to overcome one of snooker's quietly rising stars, Chris Wakelin, whose consistent performances over the past two or three years have deservedly been rewarded with a place in the top 16.

Wakelin, the winner of the Scottish Open earlier this season, knows what it is like to shine as an underdog - he ejected Neil Robertson and Mark Allen from last year's World Championship in some style before exiting to eventual champion Zhao Xintong.

Kyren Wilson produced a superb fightback from 6-2 and 7-3 down by winning seven frames in a row to deny 19-year-old Stan Moody a memorable victory on his World Championship debut.

English teenager Moody led 6-3 at the mid-session interval and was on course to become the youngest player to win a match at the famous Sheffield theatre since a 19-year-old Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Dave Harold and Darren Morgan before falling to Stephen Hendry in 1995.

In a thrilling match, arguably the best of the championship so far, 2024 champion Wilson punched the air in delight when he won the 17th frame on a black-ball finish to seal a 10-7 success after Moody had missed a chance to extend the match.

On the other table, Shaun Murphy, the 2005 winner, established a slender 5-4 lead over China's Fan Zhengyi after making a superb 140 clearance in the final frame of the session, with that match finishing tonight.
