    Williams 9-13 Hawkins

One of the Class of 92 has bid farewell to the Crucible, at least for this year.

Barry Hawkins finishes in style with a brilliant long blue as a break of 44 is enough to see off Mark Williams.

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Four

John Higgins has not settled at all tonight. So far he's not been able to play with his normal rhythm at his normal pace. Even that break he made in that frame was not John Higgins-esque. He's not relaxed at all.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has been serene. He's been all over John like a rash.

  3. Williams still fightingpublished at 21:03 BST 25 April

    Williams 9-12 Hawkins

Mark Williams comes out after the mid-session interval and banks a frame to give himself a glimmer of hope.

It could prove to be a stay of execution, though, with Barry Hawkins at the table in the 22nd frame and 47-25 up and the table looking handy for him.

John Higgins has not done a lot wrong. He just cannot get involved.

  5. O'Sullivan cruises further aheadpublished at 20:58 BST 25 April

    Higgins 1-4 O'Sullivan

Ronnie O'Sullivan does make John Higgins pay, disposing of the final red with a beautiful long pot before going to work on the colours.

A break of 95 and the Rocket is flying high at the moment.

    Higgins 1-3 O'Sullivan

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Four

Ronnie O'Sullivan has really put it on John Higgins and the alarm bells are ringing. John has been lucky to get one frame.

John has got enough grit and determination and just needs a few chances. He needs to get his hand on the table and a break under his belt.

  7. Postpublished at 20:53 BST 25 April

    Higgins 1-3 O'Sullivan

John Higgins fails to pick a red up from edge of the pack into the corner pocket which allows Ronnie O'Sullivan back to the table.

Can the Rocket make him pay?

This is proper matchplay snooker now. Ronnie’s just trying to impose himself on the table, but Higgins is staying in the balls and asking questions with every visit.

    Higgins 1-3 O'Sullivan

An important bit of table time for John Higgins.

His highest break of the match so far - 28 and counting - as he looks to wrestle back some of the momentum from Ronnie O'Sullivan.

  10. Familiar foes...published at 20:45 BST 25 April

    Higgins 1-3 O'Sullivan

    Ronnie O'Sullivan v John Higgins from 1996

This is the a seventh match at the Crucible between Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins.

That equals the record for the most frequent meetings at the famous Sheffield venue that was first set by Steve Davis and Terry Griffiths and has since been matched by Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White.

Higgins and O'Sullivan first went head to head at the Crucible in 1996, when they were both decidedly more fresh faced.

O'Sullivan fought back from 10-5 and 12-10 down to win a thriller, 13-12.

Where have those 30 years gone?

O'Sullivan holds the record for being the oldest world champion after his most recent success four years ago, aged 46, but that could be beaten in the next week and a half.

  19. Williams stays in touchpublished at 20:11 BST 25 April

    Williams 8-11 Hawkins

    Some graft from Mark Williams.

The veteran will need to string a few more frames together here, though.

Quite a lot of walking from Ronnie O'Sullivan tonight. That's not something he does a lot of. He's not getting into his shot as quickly. Whether that's the occasion, or a little bit of uncertainty I don't know.
