  1. Trump and Vafaei finely poisedpublished at 14:31 BST 26 April

    Trump 4-4 Vafaei (14:30 BST)

    Trump v Vafaei match stats

Judd Trump bossed the opening session on most metrics - but the only that truly matters is level pegging.

World number one Trump will retain that ranking if he beats Iran's Hossein Vafaei, and the pair finished locked at 4-4 after their first session.

Trump took three of the opening four frames, only for Vafaei, the world number 32 and the only qualifier to make it through the first round, to reel off three in a row to nudge 4-3 in front.

But 2019 world champion Trump made a superb break of 115 in the last frame of the session to leave the match finely poised before the second session this afternoon.

Some quotes now from the all-Chinese match between Zhao Xintong and Ding Junhui.

"This was a very special match for us that everybody knows about and wants to keep eyes on it," said Zhao. "There was more pressure, it is not like before. It was very different last year when I was a nobody guy, but now I don't want to lose any match and just want to keep going."

On his quarter-final with Shaun Murphy, Zhao added: "When he won the World Championship I was eight years old. When I was eight I saw him play with Ding many times and I know he's very good and still plays very good snooker. I will try my best. I'm far from my best."

Ding, the 2016 runner-up, made eight breaks of at least 54 in the match, but was unhappy with his performance.

"It was not good enough, I was a little bit disappointed in the first two sessions," said Ding. "It's hard when I'm 7-9 down and he found his game quickly. I tried, it was just not working.

"He [Zhao] is doing well and he is improving every time. My thought is he is better than anyone."

  6. Zhao keeps hopes of retaining title alivepublished at 13:15 BST 26 April

    Zhao 13-9 Ding

    BBC Sport at the Crucible

China's reigning champion Zhao Xintong defeated compatriot Ding Junhui 13-9 in a high-quality encounter to move into 2026 World Championship quarter-finals.

Zhao, 29, began the final session with a 9-7, although 39-year-old Ding, the first Chinese player to win a ranking event, pulled one back by winning a 46-minute opening frame on Sunday.

However, Zhao then won the next two to move 11-8 ahead, before Ding took the 20th frame with a break of 76.

But Zhao made a century with a break of 108, his third century of the match, and then sealed the win in the next frame.

Zhao is trying to break the so-called Crucible Curse, the stat which has never seen any of the previous 20 first-time winners successfully retain their title the following year.

He will play 2005 winner Shaun Murphy in the quarter-final.

  7. 'A session that had everything'published at 13:12 BST 26 April

    Selby 4-4 Wu

    Steven Hallworth
    Snooker commentator on BBC Two

You cannot catch your breath - what has happened, those last two shots? Incredible.

What a dramatic end to that session - a session that had just about everything.

This match is absolutely perfectly poised.

  8. Selby level after error follows errorpublished at 13:10 BST 26 April

    Selby 4-4 Wu

Goodness me, for such a high-quality match, two absolute howlers.

Mark Selby tries to snooker Wu Yize on the final red - but the red catches the jaws of one middle pocket and ends up right over the opposite middle.

It's a total gimme - but Wu goes in off with the cue ball when potting it! What a mistake. It hands Selby an easy chance on the yellow with cue ball in hand in the 'D' and that's that - 4-4.

  9. Postpublished at 13:03 BST 26 April

    Selby 3-4 Wu

Well, Mark Selby was 40-odd points behind in this final frame of the session...

But a safety error from Wu Yize has gifted him a big chance to turn that all around.

A couple of the remaining reds are positioned near the cushions though so still plenty of work to do.

    Selby 3-4 Wu

    Steven Hallworth
    Snooker commentator on BBC Two

I was just looking at the stats for this session - Mark Selby's pot success is at 95% and he could go 5-3 down in this match.

It's hard to imagine both players could keep this level up for a whole best-of-25 but I hope they can.

  11. Selby and Wu share frames six and sevenpublished at 12:52 BST 26 April

    Selby 3-4 Wu

While Zhao Xintong was securing his passage to the last eight, there have been a couple of quickfire frames on the other table.

Mark Selby levelled matters against Wu Yize at 3-3 with an 81 break - but the Chinese player has fired back with a 72 to nudge back in front.

The final frame of that first session is under way.

  12. 'Special match but big pressure' - Zhaopublished at 12:48 BST 26 April

    Result: Zhao 13-9 Ding

Reigning champion Zhao Xintong on BBC Two:

"It was a special match for us - everyone has eyes on us playing and today was more pressure, not like yesterday or the first session. The last session is more pressure so I am lucky I could win.

"Ding did not play that well, he gave me some easy chances but also I did not play well too and I tried to calm down because the pressure is very very big. It is very different to last year.

"The Chinese players have more pressure because snooker is a very popular sport in China and there are a lot of fans watching - it is good news but we have more pressure."

On facing Shaun Murphy in the last eight: "He's a very good player, I know how good he is and I will just try to enjoy it."

    Result: Zhao 13-9 Ding

    Ken Doherty
1997 world champion on BBC Two

It was a tough match for both players - the magnitude of it, not only here but in their home country of China, the amount of people watching it.

They produced some good stuff but there was a lot of tension and nerves as well. Zhao got over the line but it was very tense.

It is, Dennis. Apprentice beats master, pupil defeats teacher.

No mistakes this time from Zhao Xintong who knocks in a 44 break to seal the frame, victory in the match and a place in the quarter-finals.

He'll meet another former Crucible winner, Shaun Murphy, in the last eight.

A fine display from Zhao - could he be the first to beat the 'Crucible curse' and become the first-ever first-time champion to successfully defend his title?

    Zhao 12-9 Ding

Is that Ding Junhui's last shot in this year's tournament?

  19. Postpublished at 12:28 BST 26 April

    Zhao 12-9 Ding

But Ding cannot get prime position either, missing the second of two tough rest shots - and leaving the red over the pocket for Zhao Xintong.

  20. Postpublished at 12:26 BST 26 April

    Zhao 12-9 Ding

No, Zhao can't finish the job. Yet, anyway.

A poor positional shot leaves only a long red and he misses it by some way.

He's got a 43-point lead, though. But Ding pots a really good couple of balls to give himself a decent chance to make inroads on that deficit and keep himself in the tournament.
