  1. O'Sullivan thumps tablepublished at 21:47 BST 26 April

    Higgins 6-9 O'Sullivan

Is the pressure starting to get to Ronnie O'Sullivan here?

The Rocket misses a straightforward red to the top-left corner early in the final frame of the evening session, grits his teeth and thumps the table with his knuckles in frustration.

That frame has kept John Higgins in the match. Even if he loses it he can still potentially win the match from 10-6 down. He's given himself a chance though sheer grit. He's been outplayed for the majority of this and is somehow still in it. 9-7 would be unbelievable for John here.

John Higgins is not going down without a fight!

He clears the brown, blue and pink before slamming in the black.

"Come on John" roars a punter at the Crucible.

A superb long red gets John Higgins' tail up. He's on 37 points to Ronnie O'Sullivan's 55 with four colours left.

This would be a great heist by the Scot.

    Higgins 5-9 O'Sullivan

Gasp from the Crucible crowd after Ronnie O'Sullivan's break of 55 is curtailed by a tricky red which rattles the jaws of the bottom-right pocket.

Can John Higgins get on the table and pinch this frame?

The black is awkwardly placed near a red close to the cushion so he'll have to solve that particular puzzle.

    Higgins 5-9 O'Sullivan

Ronnie O'Sullivan v John Higgins on the BBC in 1996

This is now the seventh meeting at the Crucible between Ronnie O'Sullivan and John Higgins.

That equals the record for the most frequent clashes at the famous Sheffield venue that was first established by Steve Davis and Terry Griffiths and has since been equalled by Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White.

Higgins and O'Sullivan first went head to head at the Crucible in 1996, when they were both notably more fresh faced when appearing on the BBC's coverage from back then.

O'Sullivan battled back from 10-5 and 12-10 down to win a classic, 13-12.

Where have those 30 years gone?

It would have been horrible for John Higgins to lose that frame. But he has not been able to get any momentum or flow of his own.

He's not been able to string two frames together in a row. He definitely needs one of these last two frames to stay in the match. I think 11-5 would be too much, even for John Higgins. At 10-6 he has a chance.

  12. Higgins continues to fightpublished at 21:20 BST 26 April

    Higgins 5-9 O'Sullivan

On this occasion, though, Ronnie O'Sullivan does not punish him as he leaves the green over the top-right pocket and John Higgins goes on to get across the line.

The Scot is hanging in this match, just about.

I cannot believe I have just seen that. That is absolute a collector's item from John Higgins. What has happened there?

  14. Postpublished at 21:16 BST 26 April

    Higgins 4-9 O'Sullivan

John Higgins fouls on the final red. He puts too much side on the cue ball as he attempts to play routine safety against the cushion and strikes the pink.

The door is ajar for Ronnie O'Sullivan to nab this frame.

  15. Postpublished at 21:13 BST 26 April

Ronnie O'Sullivan is attempting to snooker John Higgins on the final red, but so far the Scot has been able to answer any questions posed of him.

A break of 71 from John Higgins ends with a difficult black bounce back out of the cushion next to the pocket.

Ronnie O'Sullivan comes to the table needing a snooker.

Higgins sits down and takes a big gulp from a glass of water.

  19. Postpublished at 21:04 BST 26 April

John Higgins rallies a little after the disappointment of that previous frame as he compiles a break of 55 and counting.

He's 62 ahead with 83 left on the table but little margin for error with Ronnie O'Sullivan's cue red hot at the moment.

Mark Selby v Wu Yize stats

Over on table two, Wu Yize has reached the mid-session interval with a 7-5 lead over Mark Selby.

The 22-year-old from China has started to go up a few gears in the last two frames but Selby is still well and truly in the contest.
