England are in a comfortable place and a comfortable squad. England are the favourites coming to Scotland, off the back of multiple wins.

It is an ideal situation for England to come into. This is one that they have their eyes on and one that they haven’t one up in Murrayfield for six years.

It’s a really important day for the squad and once England get through this and get 14 on the bounce then they can say they are in a good place.

It's been a tough week for everybody. It's tougher for the Scotland players. Two minutes after the game everything is playing in your mind but you have to try and channel that in a positive way.

England are such a strong side, this would be their 13th win in a row. They're a cohesive outfit. Scotland don't want to be chasing the lead. If you fall behind against England you almost play into their hands. There has to be an element of attack.

If you're forced to risk a pass, not sure what to do or go individual against England they'll just swallow you up.

International rugby is brutal, you can get everything right and still lose. It's about managing the momentum swing back and forward.

Focus on the performance to get it right and if there's a golden nugget it's don't fall behind too early.

Compared to 2020 - the last time England won here - the conditions are tropical. Both teams will appreciate the dry ball but does this represent Scotland’s best chance?

England should have the edge in an arm wrestle, but Scotland have hurt England with strike plays in this fixture and you can expect the Russell/Tuipulotu/Jones axis to go hard at England’s midfield and outside backs.

England are the comfortable favourites. Significant for a team playing away from home and a team that haven't won at Murrayfield in six years.

My concern that we are forgetting just what it means to play in a Calcutta Cup game.

It is such a hostile environment, so it is not a done deal - it means too much for Scotland.

England have to be on the lookout today, they have to expect that Scotland will put on more of a performance like they did against the All Blacks.

England players warm up at Murrayfield

England are prepping for the loose-ball chaos that follows most aerial contests.

Head coach Steve Borthwick sets up a game running the width of the pitch and splitting the matchday 23 in half. Each passage of play begins with the head coach tossing a ball in the air, the two nearest opposing players, going up for it and then the two sides improvising.

Former England wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

This exact fixture was a turning point for England two years ago, where they got outplayed by Scotland at Murrayfield.

From that moment on, they had to change the way they were attacking. That started the run of Steve [Borthwick] saying they needed to be more pragmatic and more open minded.

England are a more complete package right now and that is something Scotland won't be able to deal with.

  19. 'It is a good time to make a statement'published at 16:23 GMT 14 February

    Scotland v England (16:40 GMT)

Number eight Ben Earl says England are ready to make a statement in Edinburgh.

Steve Borthwick's side have not won away to Scotland in six years, with their last win coming under Eddie Jones in 2020.

Earl made his international debut in the fixture six years ago.

"The anthem is pretty cool; it’s one of my favourite anthems, and the drive in is a bit different - coming out and looking up at the staircase with all the fans," Earl told BBC’s Rugby Union Daily.

"You are so close to the city that you can’t really get away from it.

"It feels like we’ve got a youthful exuberance, so it doesn’t matter where you are. Us older boys can jump on the back of that.

"It feels like the time to win [in Edinburgh] and win well. It feels like we are getting better each week.

"It is a good time to make a statement."
