One area that Japan have struggled in today is knowing when to commit to runners when Ireland have options. They bit in on the wrong man there and gave Ireland space.

It has taken Ireland a few minutes to get into the swing of things in this second half but that's good hands and a big game player with the try.

That is a brilliant set-up play from Ireland off the lineout and the multi-phase is great.

    Andrew Porter

    That's much more like it.

Japan were stretched after that Doris carry.

Tommy O'Brien made more ground on the other wing, and Andrew Porter was never going to be stopped from close range.

Crowley sends his conversion attempt wide.

Caelan Doris charges forwards the line and it was one offload away from a walk-in try for Tommy O'Brien.

Brilliant, yet slightly desperate defence from Japan.

There's some good old kick tennis between the sides, which comes to an end when Seung-sin Lee sends it into touch.

It WAS much, much better from Ireland. But then there's a clumsy knock on and Japan win the scrum in their own 22.

Ireland work it through the hands really well and Tommy O'Brien is brought down just short.

    Much, much better from Ireland.

Japan win the throw and are throwing it about for fun again.

But there's one pass too many and Ireland snatch it.

Japan are so effective with ball in hand that they will not want to get into a kick battle with a much taller Ireland team.

The players are back out on the pitch and we've heard Jacob Stockdale's yellow will remain just that.

Kippei Ishida's change of direction saved the Ulster wing from any further punishment.

Kudos to the Japanese. They have played all the rugby so far. Ireland, on pure rugby terms, have lost the first half. The Japanese may lose the second half through tiredness but my verdict is that they have won already. Young Eddie may not be such a bad trainer after all... Meanwhile, I am beginning to gain the impression that Farrell has run out of steam.
