Nick Timoney is like my labrador when he has something in his mouth that he really shouldn't have.

    There's no catching him.

In Ireland's defence, the one time they put a fluid attack together they scored with Jack Crowley's early try.

But even that was against 14 men.

And Nick Timoney's score came from a dropped ball.

Safe to say there is work to do.

    Tommy Bowe
Former Ireland winger on TNT Sport

Ireland have made nearly double the amount of tackles as Japan. That was not the way this was supposed to go but it shows how much Ireland have been forced to defend.

    HT: Ireland 17-10 Japan

Eddie Jones said he wanted Japan to entertain today. They've ticked a box in that respect.

They've been miles better to watch than Ireland, and they'll have a man advantage for 10 minutes after the restart.

There is nearly a foot in height difference between Ishida and Stockdale and the sudden change of direction from Ishida combined with his height makes it so difficult for him.

It's one of those you'd like to put down as a rugby incident, there's no way for Jacob to react and it's not clear and obvious there is any contact.

    Jacob is very frustrated.

Japan had the penalty anyway so it looks like Seung-sin Lee will send over an easy kick to end the half.

The pass from Osada didn't connect but that's a brilliant break and they have been a joy to watch.

There's a glancing head-on-head contact so Stockdale could be in a bit of bother.

When the Japanese attack they really attack with pace and are putting Ireland's defence under pressure.

We're going to the TMO for something.

It might be for a big hit by Jacob Sotckdale on Kippei Ishida.

The clock is in the red.

Do Japan go for the posts or into the corner for one final attack?

Tomoki Osada races clear and tires for throw a late pass, but it's to nobody and he gathers his own ball.

Ireland then stray offside and Japan will have the penalty.

    Ireland 17-7 Japan

It is so difficult once a maul gets going to stop it legally but Ireland would have hoped to have stopped it from getting rolling. Great power though from Japan.

    Converted Try - Ireland 17-7 Japanpublished at 13:19 GMT 8 November 2025

    Kenji Sato (con Lee)

It's pure power from Japan and the ball is down on the line!

    Nothing less than Japan deserve.

Seung-sin Lee splits the posts with the conversion.
