    Northampton 43-28 Scarlets

The complex format in this competition has its critics, but when you finish a pool with a contest like that, then fans can have few complaints.

Many envisaged a massacre in favour of Northampton. The home win came, but only after a stirring Scarlets display that defied the poor form and future ambiguity currently hanging over the Welsh side.

Thank you for joining us and I hope you enjoyed the ride. Personally, I'm off for a lie down.

  5. Scarlets left ruing Pau collapsepublished at 17:19 GMT 18 January

    Northampton 43-28 Scarlets

In the end for Northampton, it was job done. But make no mistake, they were pushed to the limit at times today and Sam Vesty's side had to respond to being under the cosh for much of the opening stages.

As for Scarlets, they exit Europe all together. But the campaign wasn't botched by not managing to hold on this afternoon - it was the narrow lost to Bristol and the failure to win from being 38-26 up against Pau last week that ultimately cost them dear.

From a defensive point of view, they've conceded 20 tries in their last four games in all competitions. It's not hard to cite where the problems are.

  6. Full-time: Northampton 43-28 Scarletspublished at 17:12 GMT 18 January

A superb 80 minutes of entertainment.

At the end of it all, Northampton secure a second-placed finish and a home tie in the last-16.

Scarlets? Well, they go out, but pardon the cliche, leave Franklin's Gardens with heads held high.

  7. Quins eliminate La Rochellepublished at 17:11 GMT 18 January

    La Rochelle 17-27 Harlequins

The whistle goes to send Quins through with Leicester also keeping fourth in Pool 3!

    La Rochelle are out!

  8. Quins extend lead in last minutepublished at 17:09 GMT 18 January

    La Rochelle 17-27 Harlequins

Quins have surely won it now! La Rochelle go off their feet in front of the posts, and Marcus Smith lands the penalty in the 79th minute!

Converted try: Northampton 43-28 Scarletspublished at 80 +1 mins

    Chick try, Belleau con

The final act belongs to Callum Chick.

The replacement flanker powers his way over from close range and Anthony Belleau completes a haul of 13 points with the conversion.

  10. Man of the Match: Edoardo Todaropublished at 80 mins

Cheers greet the announcement and after a first half treble of tries, few can argue.

  11. Postpublished at 79 mins

    Northampton 36-28 Scarlets

Scarlets have a lineout in their own half, and have little choice but to throw caution to the wind.

Ah, just as I was building that up, the throw isn't straight and the home side have the scrum - and the chance to close things out.

    Sure enough, another penalty comes.

  12. Harlequins respondpublished at 17:04 GMT 18 January

    La Rochelle 17-24 Harlequins

    It's all happening!

Quins are back in front, a long pass finding Tom Lawday on the wing and he smashes over by the flag for a try that Marcus Smith converts to put Quins seven points ahead.

  13. Penalty: Northampton 36-28 Scarletspublished at 76 mins

    Belleau pen

    That could be that.

Anthony Belleau, selfishly as far as neutrals are concerned, lands the three points to settle the chaos, meaning the Welsh side now need two scores with time running out.

The way this game has gone I refuse to declare it over. But Scarlets must respond and fast.

  14. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Northampton 33-28 Scarlets

Saints back on the attack now and they have a penalty in front of sticks.

Going against everything we have so far, Anthony Belleau is going for goal.

  15. try

Converted try: Northampton 33-28 Scarletspublished at 73 mins

    Davies try, Costelow con

    Be still my beating heart...

This one is back on a knife-edge. More Scarlets pressure and from 10 metres out, Sam Costelow tries a cute chip kick.

It comes off as Jac Davies gathers and goes under the posts. What a finish we have in store now.

  16. La Rochelle fightbackpublished at 16:55 GMT 18 January

    La Rochelle 17-17 Harlequins

    All square in France!

Thomas Berjon races away and after a nifty sidestep he slides over to level the scores. The conversion is missed, but the momentum is with the hosts.

  17. Postpublished at 16:52 GMT 18 January

    La Rochelle 12-17 Harlequins

La Rochelle are fighting back, with ex-England back Jack Nowell racing in for an unconverted try that reduces Quins' lead to five points.

  18. try

Converted try: Northampton 33-21 Scarletspublished at 16:49 GMT 18 January

    Costelow try and con

    All over? Not quite...

Scarlets are still alive here. Macs Page is pushed back as he goes for the line, but Gareth Davies feeds Sam Costelow who dives over and converts his own try.

Remember, nothing less than a win will do for Scarlets. And they are still going for it.

  19. Postpublished at 65 mins

    Northampton 33-14 Scarlets

Macs Page has made a difference since coming on for Scarlets with a couple of half-breaks.

But they simply aren't sustaining pressure in the way they did in the first 40 minutes.

As I say that, Josh Macleod wins a penalty at the breakdown and it sets up a lineout chance.

  20. try

Try: Northampton 33-14 Scarletspublished at 61 mins

    Wright try, Belleau con

There is no stopping that rolling maul.

Chunya Munga takes clean lineout ball and the drive that follows sees Craig Wright touch down for a try that all but seals victory.

It's been a brave effort from Scarlets but you very much sense the resistance has been broken now.
