    HT: Wales 19-17 Italy

    Ceri Coleman-Phillips
BBC Sport Wales rugby reporter at Cardiff Arms Park

Just like they were in Parma last year, Wales are in the fight at half-time.

Italy pulled away and put a record score on their opponents on that occassion, but you get the sense that this is going to be a close battle right up until the final whistle.

Three tries apiece but Wales have the edge thanks to that conversion with the final kick of the half.

Can Sean Lynn's side avoid a repeat of last year's nightmare second half in Italy?

Perfectly done by the pack - Kelsey Jones hits her jumper and then guides the drive over the line.

That's the result of training ground graft.

Keira Bevan adds the extras and Wales move into the lead.

Aiono and Keight with big charges and Wales work to within five metres, where they are given another penalty.

George kicks right into the corner...

Huge scrum from Wales to win a penalty. It's kicked to just outside the 22.

Can they create something to level, or snatch the lead, before the break after playing with the wind at their backs in the first half?

The Italian defensive line is coming up very quickly with the outside centre and wing higher up then their inside defenders to form a net around the Welsh midfield.

You can tell they're looking for the interception and really closing down the time Lleucu George has to pull the strings for Wales.

Heads up rugby essential for Wales' attack here.

It was so simple from an Italian perspective.

History repeats itself. As soon as Wales get back on level terms, Italy up the ante.

Nothing there was putting any strain on the Italian defence. They were comfortable enough in putting their tackles in.

Keira Bevan gets isolated and they're over the ball so quickly.

Wales kick a penalty into the 22 and this time get some joy out of the driving line-out.

Keight with another strong carry, followed by George going alone and then some hard carries by the forwards.

An absolutely huge hit on Cox stalls the progress and then Italy get over the ball to snuff out the attack with a penalty for holding on.

    Alyssa D'Inca

Well Wales weren't level for long.

That will infuriate the coaching staff because it is far, far too easy for Italy with wing Alyssa D'Inca going over down the right.

Centre Sillari with the final pass after offloads against rather passive defence.

Carys Cox needs to buy a lottery ticket because she is one lucky girl.

    Controversy in Cardiff.

Lovely move to put the centre running free but she drops the ball in the act of grounding it.

A moment of class to create the opening - with Keight putting her midfield partner through - but it is botched...

    Or so it seemed.

The officials are happy that there was no separation and give the try. Bizarre!

It feels that Wales have got away with one there, but it's level again.

ANOTHER huge burst by Courtney Keight to get Wales into the 22.

A high tackle wins a penalty that is kicked to the corner.

    Can Wales strike?

    Wales 5-12 Italy

Italy win a penalty and - playing into the wind - opt for a quick tap only to knock the ball on.

Wales have a chance to counter but then Carys Cox spills it.

    Scrappy.

    Wales 5-12 Italy

    Ceri Coleman-Phillips
BBC Sport Wales rugby reporter at Cardiff Arms Park

Keira Bevan spoke this week the importance of looking after the ball, so far, they've not done that.

They're coughing up possession way too easily.

    Wales 5-12 Italy

Italy fly-half Veronica Madia is bringing the line speed to try and spook the Welsh attackers.

It works as a knock-on ends the home side's bid for a leveller.

Courtney Keight getting Wales going forward from midfield but they are lacking a bit of cutting edge behind so far.

Wales rumble into the 22 with a driving line-out but are then turned over.

Italy clear but are kicking into the win and we are back where it all started with a Welsh line-out just outside the 22.

    Wales 5-12 Italy

Another injury concern for Wales with tight-head Sisilia Tuipulotu, who has been prominent around the park, getting treatment.

The prop is good to continue and is straight into a scrum on halfway.

It's very solid and then Wales win a penalty from the resulting phase, Italy slow to retreat.

George kicks to just outside the 22.

    Rachel Taylor

Lleucu George could have kept that ball in hand because there were numbers and she could have had a bit more composure on the ball.

Wales have to retaliate from that try now.

That will really frustrate Sean Lynn.

The team have been putting better attacking phases together but then hitting the self-destruct button with the kick charge down that leads to a 50 metre run in seven-pointer.

A bit more heads up rugby required in attack for Wales, they've shown they can do it with Keight's try but that grubber attempt wasn't it.
