    "To be honest, I wish it was dry so I could see where the bike was and to see where we really are against the others.

    Don't forget, the weather is scheduled to be better tomorrow so expect the times to tumble in the second sessions.

    The track is still wet so this is all about getting the laps built up.

    Superbike qualifying

    The rain has stopped and the speeds have picked up on the final laps of the session.

    Richard Cooper still leads the way, but Glenn Irwin and Peter Hickman have jumped up to fourth and fifth place respectively.

    Storm Stacey, who was following Irwin about the wet circuit, has popped into the top 10, which is a solid effort in the conditions.

    Weather update: It's proper raining at the start/finish now.

    The rooster tails of spray are visible as the Superbikes come round the final corner, and the umbrellas are up on the marshal posts and in the spectator areas.

    With the weather being like this at the minute, testing is something you don't quite get enough of.

    On a full tank of fuel when you first go out for the first race, no wonder you go right to the chicanes at the first braking point with that velocity, which is always a problem.

    A lot of the big names have made their way out onto the track.

    Irwin is still circulating to clock up the miles, while Michael Dunlop, Peter Hickman, John McGuinness and Cooper are also on circuit.

    Richard Cooper is leading the lap count with five.

    He's also topping the speed charts at 110.843mph over the 8.9 miles.

    That was on his first outing, which tells you how the conditions have changed from the start of the session.

    "When the van is coming up the drive with the new leathers in it, I love it to bits and when the new helmet arrived, I was like a kid in a sweet shop.

    "There is something about a Honda with a number one on it and, last night, the sun was just setting here and they were warming up the Honda and I got quite emotional about it.

    "Thinking 'wow, I am still able to do this and allowed to do this' and still holding my own."

    The session is still active but it's now properly raining around the start/finish, so a lot of riders are staying put.

    The forecast tomorrow is looking far better, and those riders out there are just ticking off the laps at a steady pace.

    Glenn Irwin has ventured out for the first laps of his North West 200 return.

    There's mixed conditions around the circuit, with things a lot more wet around the Coleraine end of the Triangle.

    It's spitting at the paddock, and the drops seem to be getting heavier.

    Dean Harrison is keen as mustard and is the first rider across the line.

    It's a steady 4:54.566 with an average speed of 109.262mph for starters.

    "It was a bit tricky with those conditions and the left before Magherabuoy Chicane and all the way to Black Hill was completely wet.

    "Then you get here [to the paddock] and it is spitting but a bit dry. Then you think if the tyres are hot or cold.

    "I know it is just a newcomers lap, but you are thinking all these things. I have really enjoyed it so far and I just hope the weather picks up and I can enjoy riding.

    "To be honest, I probably won't enjoy it as much if this weather as it is a lot easier to make a mistake.

    "I just want a nice, clean NW200 and don't want to make any mistakes."
