Superbike race one - restart to come

Glenn Irwin on BBC iPlayer: "It's nice to be back. It was almost like a warm-up as such. We need to be quite clever. My arm is an issue, for sure, but it's mind over matter and you find a way.

"I still feel good out there and the guys have worked hard on the bikes, we've got a great package. A fast bike certainly helps."

  12. Fastest newcomer lap under threatpublished at 11:10 BST 9 May

    Richard Petrie
BBC Sport at the North West 200

If qualifying is anything to go by, the fastest lap speed by a newcomer will come under real threat today.

The benchmark currently stands to Richard Cooper at 120.659 on his debut on a Buildbase Suzuki in 2019 with 120.659mph.

This year Storm Stacey unofficially broke the record in Thursday's qualifying at a speed of 122.179mph in Superbike qualifying.

To officially enter the record books the speed must be recorded during a race however.

Final preparations are taking place on the grid before this one. Your guess is as good as mine.

Storm Stacey appears to be racing Michael Rutter's bike for this one, with a #79 put over the number four.

    Superbike qualifying

We've just heard that Storm Stacey has an issue with his Ducati so won't start this race.

That's a real shame for the debutant, who had made a big impression.

  18. Irwin out to make more recordspublished at 10:55 BST 9 May

    Superbike race (six laps)

    Richard Petrie
BBC Sport at the North West 200

On his last appearance in 2024 Glenn Irwin made some history by becoming the most successful Superbike rider in the history of the North West 200 as he made it 11 wins in a row in the premier class over the Triangle circuit.

Were Irwin to win both Superbike races today he could join Joey Dunlop as the fourth most successful rider ever at the North West with 13 wins.

A double win today would also see him draw equal with Alastair Seeley as the most prolific winner in an individual class. Seeley currently holds that record with 13 successes in the Supersport class.
