Britain's Melissa Mullins was hoping to get back in the win column on the prelims tonight, but her scheduled bantamweight contest with Luana Carolina was pulled on Friday after the Brazilian missed weight by 8lb.

Mullins walked on to the stage at in tears, seemingly already knowing that her opponent was set to miss the 135lb limit, and cut a hugely dejected figure as she raised one arm in the air.

The UFC later confirmed the fight was off.

  2. Jones lifts lid on UFC White house talkspublished at 21:25 GMT 21 March

While we're on the topic of the White House event, Jon Jones has made no secret how upset he is not to be fighting on the card.

The two-weight UFC champion was in talks with the UFC brass, although UFC president Dana White has denied that was the case.

Jones has been clicking away on X, saying the UFC were not willing to go above $15m. For context, Jones reportedly agreed a $30m deal to fight Tom Aspinall last year before pulling out of the deal.

"Was ready, willing and physically able to step in. I was willing to take substantially less than the Aspinall ask but they wouldn’t budge one dollar over $15m. I felt like our fight was worth more," Jones said.

"My team and I were actually negotiating with the UFC for that fight. Real negotiations. I even came down from my original number, and what was I offered in return ? I was lowballed."

Earlier this month, UFC president finally announced who will be appearing on the White House card on 14 June.

The event, named UFC Freedom 250, was announced by US President Donald Trump last year and is being held to celebrate 250 years of American independence.

Alex Pereira will attempt to become the first fighter to win UFC titles in three weight divisions when he faces Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight belt in the co-main event.

Undisputed lightweight champion Illia Topuria and interim title holder Justin Gaethje headline the card in the unification contest.

BBC Sport spoke with some of the UFC's stars to see what they make of the event.

As far as recognisable faces go, so far I'm spotted former bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili at octagon-side.

I've covered a few of the Georgian's fights over the years, and I still can't spell his second name without going on Google.

I've also seen Britain's Harry Hardwick, who suffered defeat against Marwan Rahiki recently.

Harkwick suffered a broken jaw in the fight, which he has since had to have wired shut during his recovery.

I can still see bruising and cuts on his face from the encounter too. Who would be an MMA fighter, eh?

Christian Leroy Duncan speaking after his victory against Roman Dolidze: "He is a brawler, his grappling is so strong. It was about escaping everything and giving it back to him. He is hard to put out. He is a solid fighter.

"This puts us In a great position going forward, in the top 15."

On who he wants to fight next: "All the numbers above me, any of them. All of them exciting fights. I welcome any fight from here."

Britain's Christian Leroy Duncan might have just sealed himself a spot in the top 15 of the middleweight division, with a unanimous decision win over number 11-ranked Roman Dolidze.

That's four wins on the bounce for the man from Gloucester and takes the tally of victories for British fighters on tonight's card to four - joining Shanelle Dyer, Nathaniel Wood and Mason Jones in the win column.

  7. Mason Jones - The next ranked Welshman?published at 21:04 GMT 21 March

Former UFC fighter Jack Shore is the only Welshman to reach the top 15 in the promotion to date, having been 15th in the bantamweight division in 2022.

With Mason Jones tipped to follow in his footsteps, Shore believes Jones "has all the talent in the world" to do just that.

"He's got that thing that you can't teach people. He's got that heart, that grit, that toughness," Shore said.

"You can coach someone to be the best fighter in the world, give them all the skills, skill-wise give them everything they need but if they're not willing to bite down and swing when the going gets tough, it's not worth having.

"Mason doesn't lack that. Sometimes he's got too much of that for his own good, he could win fights a lot easier sometimes, but he loves a tear up."

You always want to close out the preliminary action with a bang and that's exactly what we got earlier between Wales' Mason Jones and France's Axel Sola.

The lightweight rivals threw everything at each other and were both left wearing the scars when the final buzzer rang out.

So far, it's the leading contender for Fight of the Night and could even be in the mix for Fight of the Year.

Jones, who extends his winning streak to seven, said: "Love bringing it to the fans. I hope to go again before end of the year.

"Last time I was in London, I was in worst part of my life. It really showed who was close and who I needed to get rid of.

"I am example; if you want something you are the only person in the way. Double down and get in."

Shem Rock is still waiting to get off the mark in the UFC after losing his second successive fight for the promotion.

The Liverpudlian fell to a unanimous decision loss against Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady earlier tonight.

Rock's coach Paul Rimmer had some pretty stern words for his fighter between rounds, saying: "You’re just giving the fight away. You have to attack.

"This isn’t the ultimate defending championship. You have to get in there, look at me. You have to attack."

  12. Edwards at cagesidepublished at 20:51 GMT 21 March

    Paul Battison
BBC Sport journalist at the O2 Arena

I've just spotted former welterweight champion Leon Edwards heading towards his seat at octagon-side.

It's been a quick turnaround for the Briton, who cornered his brother Fabian last night in Madrid as he suffered defeat by PFL middleweight champion Costello van Steenis.

Edwards headlined here one year ago as he suffered defeat by Sean Brady, and is four months on from being knocked out by Carlos Prates.

I wonder what will be next for the 34-year-old?

Shanelle Dyer kicked off tonight's prelims and marked her UFC debut in style.

The Londoner rocked Brazilian Ravena Oliveira with an overhand right early in round two, before landing several knees, a couple more punches and forcing the referee to step in.

“Yes, yes London, what you saying? Come on. Aw man, I’m gassed. The game plan was always to knock her out and I knocked her out. Headkick knockout, got the finish," she said after her win.

“Ay Dana, line up all the strawweights. I’ll take them out one by one, I am coming for that belt.”

  15. Van Steenis knocks out Edwards to retain titlepublished at 20:44 GMT 21 March

Just before we dive too deep into build-up for tonight's card, there was some PFL action last night in Madrid that it's worth getting you up to speed on.

Briton Fabian Edwards saw his world title dream dashed for a third time when losing via knockout against middleweight champion Costello van Steenis.

Despite appearing to hold an advantage in the stand-up, Edwards continuously opted to grapple and his tactic backfired as Van Steenis stopped him with a flurry of elbows while defending a takedown in round three.

Spring has arrived and that means one thing for British UFC fans... a card at London's O2 Arena.

For the fifth successive year the UFC has travelled across the pond and landed in the English capital, offering up a chance for some British stars to step into the spotlight.

Manchester's Lerone Murphy headlines against Russian Movsar Evloev, with the winner likely to be next in line for a shot at featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Liverpool's Luke Riley features in the co-main and there's an all-British bout at welterweight with Michael 'Venom' Page taking on Sam Patterson.
