Medvedev's gone off the boil again, allowing Nadal to bully him out of these exchanges.
He slaps down a serve out wide to get himself to 30-30, then finds another ace before Nadal, somehow, recovers from a sliding shot out wide to swing over a winner.
Deuce.

A body serve isn't dealt with by Medvedev, getting Nadal in front for the first time on his serve.

Medvedev picks an interesting time to double fault, before a frustrated Nadal sends a whippy forehand long.
A fine strike down the line gets Medvedev back in touch, and he tidies up the game with an ace down the T.
We've had four games in 12 minutes! Lightning quick.
Nadal 6-3 1-3 Medvedev*
Not to be outdone, Nadal races to a love hold of his own.
He's on the board in this second set.

Medvedev is battering Rafa at the moment.
Medvedev started quickly here and he has hit a vein. He has been the man to beat and he has found that form. Rafa is pedal to the metal. This is what we expected and what we saw at the start of the first set.
*Nadal 6-3 0-3 Medvedev
Fine, fine serving from Medvedev, who chucks in a serve and volley of his own as he races to a love hold.

Hello! Both players try out some deft movement, charging to the net as fast as their feet will carry them, and Medvedev somehow chases down a Nadal drop shot and passes him with a winner.
Well then. A few errors from Nadal and Medvedev has two break points. He's not converted one yet...
*Nadal 6-3 0-1 Medvedev
Well, that's... fast.
A love hold to Medvedev, sealed with an ace.
Nadal 6-3 Medvedev*
It'll be Medvedev to serve first in this set, and he wins a net play of his own to take the first point of the game.

Rafa Nadal hasn't lost a match where he's won the first set since Acapulco in 2019, where Nick Kyrgios stunned him after saving two match points.
Positive signs for the Spaniard. Remember, he's never won the season-ending tournament...

A great set of tennis by Nadal. He becomes the first player to take a set off Medvedev this week. That was very impressive.
