Now we've got a match, exhibition stuff as Lopez dashes on to the short ball with a clean pick-up and then hammers away a volleyed winner. 15-30.

Not quite the cruise it was in the opening set so far for Kyle Edmund. Feliciano Lopez is digging his heels in like a Spanish bull, and going on the counter charge.

Edmund spins his racquet, screams down a serve and takes the Spaniard on successfully in the following rally.

It's a party between every point. A quick burst on the trumpet before every serve...

Feliciano Lopez flops a mishit drop shot into prime position for Edmund to whack away, but the Spaniard holds off the next point.

A huge "come onnnnn!" from Kyle Edmund, side-stepping into a brutal backhand winner. Love it. Feliciano Lopez responds by dashing to the net and jabbing a volley out of the Brit's reach.

Take away the first three games, where Edmund was virtually perfect, and things have certainly middled up. Lopez’s serve can be awkward and pose lots of problems – he appears to have settled in.

He's pumped.

But the nerveless Briton silences them straight away. Brilliant.

Just the winner Kyle Edmund needed. Rifling a backhand down the narrowest channel and leaving Feliciano Lopez stranded. The Brit fights back to 40-30.

And then Edmund punches long with a backhand. It was called in, mind? Lopez is sure that was out, looked it to me, and Hawk Eye confirms it on the challenge.

A mini-break for the Spaniard.

Angles. Kyle Edmund is finding them. A corking forehand that dips inside the tramline and burrows its way beyond Lopez.

But oh no... the Brit comes in to take on a volley at the net, only to wrap one into the tape.
