    Pella 5-7 4-6 6-3 0-0 Bautista Agut

    Well, well, well.

Roberto Bautista Agut surrenders his first set of the Championships and we're heading for a fourth set on Court One.

Not many may have seen this coming after Bautista Agut appeared firmly in control at two sets to the good against Guido Pella.

But, as the fighting Argentine proved in the fourth round against Milos Raonic, Pella certainly has the physical and mental stamina to push back when the odds become stacked against him.

An unexpected drop in Bautista Agut's levels - which appear to have now returned to normal - has given Pella more than enough hope of salvaging this match.

    *Williams/Murray 3-6 4-4 Melichar/Soares

Melichar's volley almost rips the strings from Murray's racquet, and the Williams fizzes back a wrist-rattling return of her own.

That's a meaty serve Melichar though, and Murray can't pick it up. The top seeds hold, again.

"Come on Ser-Andy/Murrena" screams one spectator... Andy Murray says Serena Williams is the boss, and she's labeled them "Murrena".

Williams fizzes a return towards the feet of Melichar but the American tip-toes out of the way to let it land long. 30-15.

Roger Federer has eased into the quarter-final at Wimbledon but the eight-time champion is wary of his next opponent, Japan's Kei Nishikori.

"I think it's going to be tough," he said. "He's getting into quarters with a lot of energy.

"I remember some of the slams recently he arrived into the later stages of slams with maybe some tough matches going into it. So far it's been really easy for him.

"I think he's ready. I'm a big fan of his game. I think he's got one of the best backhands in the game that we have right now.

"He's a great return player. Solid mentally. I always thought he was a great talent."

Danger for the British-American duo at 15-30, until Bruno Soares leaps into a forehand and overcooks it.

Andy Murray glides out of the way of a Nicole Melichar return and watches it drop long, to his relief. A big hold from Serena Williams.

Argh! The top seeds hold, somehow... Melichar does superbly to dish up a backhand after Williams' jab rolls over the tape. Murray goes dashing after it but can't get there in time.

This is brilliant. Some fantastic exchanges on court two, and the noise... that's just from the players.

Bruno Soares is at his subtle best to guide a drop forehand pick-up narrowly over the net, but he then fires off target. Deuce, and if court two had a roof it would have just come off...

It's mixed doubles, but that point was all Serena versus Soares... somehow the Brazilian coaxes a fiery volley back into play but Williams creaks through the gears to zing down a winner moments later. She can't get to a running Soares volley but Murrena have the mini-break - 15-30.

One to make us amateurs feel better. Serena Williams cracks an overhead into the net. Nicole Melichar then double faults to leave this game balanced at 40-30, but a sliding serve catches Andy Murray unaware and he skips it into the net.

A hold to love for Roberto Bautista Agut.

It's less straightforward for Guido Pella though, as another captivating baseline rally sends Bautista Agut 15-30 ahead.

An ace momentarily saves Pella, but a relentless Bautista Agut forces a break point.

Pella keeps his cool when it matters, volleying at the net to move one game away from taking the set.

That's high from Williams, it has Soares backtracking... but it drops wide, to the Brazilian's relief. Serena spots the space on the next point and whistles a winner past Andy Murray's ear - that almost took his baseball cap off. 15-15.

Wowsa. Bruno Soares rocks into another ace that almost cleans out the line judge behind Serena Williams, only to then double fault. He's not lost a point on serve when he's got them in... and that doesn't change as Nicole Melichar slaps away Serena's return to hold.

    Pella 5-7 4-6 4-1 Bautista Agut*

A first double-fault of the match for Roberto Bautista Agut. But that's the only sighting he offers to a resurgent Guido Pella, and he's on the board in the third set as a convincing forehand winner paves the way for six successive points.

At love-30 down on his serve, Pella summons a neatly-timed backhand winner before firing a forehand and an ace beyond the reach of Bautista Agut and wraps up the game from the baseline.

    As you were.

Novak Djokovic told BBC TV after his win:

"He started well. he was dictating the play from the baseline. Things could have gone a different way, who knows what the match would have looked like if I had lost the first set but I was very pleased with the second and third.

"I had a tough match in the third round. Other than that, I've won in straight sets and played really well throughout the tournament.

"It's exactly what I wanted and hopefully I can go in the right direction in the semis as well."
