    *Federer 1-3 Nishikori

At 37, Federer is the oldest quarter-finalist since Jimmy Connors in 1991 but he's still light years ahead of those hoping to take his crown.

Will he reach more Slam quarter-finals if he continues to play until he's 40? You wouldn't bet against it.

Back to the action. It's 30-30 before Nishikori goes 'soft-hands' and plays a delicate angled volley.

The Japanese player, who got to the last eight last year, goes on to hold.

29 forehand winners for Roberto Bautista Agut so far in this match.

It's been a weapon and a half for the Spaniard.

He includes two of those on his way to an important hold that stretches his advantage to 4-1 in the fourth set.

Bautista Agut is refocused - and he's closing in on the semi-finals.

The third is also saved as Nishikori's return flops into the netting.

The Japanese player then goes long before Federer serves an ace to hold.

That wasn't entirely convincing though was it Roger?

    Pella 5-7 4-6 6-3 1-3 Bautista Agut*

The door opens for Roberto Bautista Agut, but he's unable to stroll through at the first glimpse of a breakthrough as Guido Pella fights back to deuce.

The Spaniard earns a second stab at it though with a well-executed forehand, and this time he takes his chance to regain control of the match from Pella.

Bautista Agut is firmly in the driving seat.

This Federer-loving crowd are puzzled as to what to do. Do they applaud Nishikori each time he nabs a point? Or do they gasp each time Federer makes an error?

They can’t make their mind up. It’s simply a confused, yet polite, ripple of applause.

    *Pella 5-7 4-6 6-3 1-2 Bautista Agut

Guido Pella has located a weak spot in Roberto Bautista Agut's game and is charging in from the baseline much more frequently than he dared at the beginning of the match.

With a delicate touch, Pella drops a forehand volley beyond the reach of Bautista Agut as he too holds serve - the Spaniard unable to depart the comfort of his baseline quick enough.

With the initiative seized, Pella wears down the Spaniard's serve to earn two break points - but, sensing a pivotal moment, Bautista Agut saves an awkward situation with two trusty forehand winners.

It remains on serve in the fourth set.
