    Frame 17: Bingham 9-7 Carter

But this time Stuart Bingham comes a cropper using the rest.

Ali Carter looks a relieved man. It's a chance for him to get his hand back on the baize with a relatively simple opening red.

  3. Bingham on a rollpublished at 22:13 GMT 19 January 2020

    Bingham 9-7 Carter

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

Stuart Bingham's cue ball control is immaculate. As we've seen he can win four or five frames on the spin and it's so impressive to do that in a major final.

  4. Bingham on firepublished at 22:12 GMT 19 January 2020

    Bingham 9-7 Carter

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Stuart Bingham is arguably playing now as well as he did to win the World Championship.

Ali Carter still looks focused, and in the zone, but it's tough when you're sat in your chair so much.

  5. 'That's the brutal thing about snooker'published at 22:10 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 16: Bingham 9-7 Carter

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

That's the brutal thing about snooker. When your opponent is playing like this you can't do anything about it.

  6. Bingham one frame away from Masters titlepublished at 22:10 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 16: Bingham 9-7 Carter

This match has had more ups and downs than the Big Dipper at Blackpool.

Stuart Bingham can't make a century but frankly who cares, other than Ali Carter? A break of 88 brings up another frame. He's just one away.

  7. Postpublished at 22:05 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 16: Bingham 8-7 Carter

Stuart Bingham is in among the balls again.

And he's got cruise control on now. This is serene snooker and Bingham at his best as he races up to a half century.

He could be on for a ton here.

  8. Postpublished at 22:03 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 16: Bingham 8-7 Carter

Ali Carter headed into the bowels of the Ally Pally looking rather perplexed at the end of the last frame. But what can he do about his reversal of fortune?

He tries to force a difficult one into the bottom right corner at the start of the 16th frame - but that was an all or nothing sort of shot. He got zip.

  9. 'Bingham showing tremendous character'published at 22:01 GMT 19 January 2020

    Bingham 8-7 Carter

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

Stuart Bingham is showing tremendous character. Earlier on he looked like he'd struggle to tie up his shoelaces. The ability to think clearly under the cosh is often under-rated and he was very positive the way he played.

This has probably come as little bit of a shock to Ali Carter. He probably thought he'd cracked this match but all of a sudden he's behind. One pot can completely change the game around.

Martin: What a thrilling conclusion it’s been to The Masters final this evening, based on current form I’d back Stuart Bingham to lift the trophy. He has looked more assured.

Andy: Bingham looking so relaxed now.

  11. 'Expect further twists'published at 21:59 GMT 19 January 2020

    Bingham 8-7 Carter

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Winning the world title helps but it wasn't that long ago that Stuart Bingham looked all at sea. He's grasped his chance but who is to say if he can push ahead? I suspect there will still be a few little twists in the tail yet.

  12. Bingham hits the frontpublished at 21:55 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 15: Bingham 8-7 Carter

Stuart Bingham was two frames up coming into this evening's session. He then went two behind but he's back in front again after reeling off a third straight frame.

A very tidy break of 58 there.

  13. 'Bingham has looked a different player since the interval'published at 21:53 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Stuart Bingham has looked a different player since the interval. He is striking the ball so much better.

Unforced errors have cost Ali Carter. Stuart has not had to work that hard for his chances.

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

Stuart Bingham can barely get his hand on the table so goes all out attack from a shot off the top cushion.

A bit gung-ho considering what's gone before but it works out superbly as a red zips away to the bottom right corner.

This would be a remarkable clearance.

  16. Postpublished at 21:45 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

It's all a bit scratchy until Stuart Bingham gets in, but stretching he applies nothing like the power needed to a pot on a red into the bottom left corner.

Zero position. We're back to the cagey stuff.

  17. Re-writespublished at 21:42 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport at Alexandra Palace

It's getting to that stage of the match where it is too close to call so journalists have to start writing both versions: Carter wins first Masters titles/Bingham wins first Masters title.

Whatever the outcome, one 500-word piece will never see the light of day.

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

Ali Carter gets to 25 before taking an age looking at a plant into the bottom right corner.

He doesn't fancy it so knocks in a red just above them but he can't hold for position.

Now what will he do here? Take on a difficult yellow or put his opponent in a spot of bother. Take a guess...

  19. Postpublished at 21:37 GMT 19 January 2020

    Frame 15: Bingham 7-7 Carter

A touch of over-confidence? Stuart Bingham takes on a long red to the bottom right corner but that was never dropping. He just caught that right of the potting angle.

All of a sudden the Ali Carter supporters in the arena find their voices, encouraging their man as he gets up from the corner he's been stationed in for the best part of the last two frames.

  20. Will Carter regret missed pink?published at 21:35 GMT 19 January 2020

    Bingham 7-7 Carter

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Stuart Bingham knows how to get things done. He won the World Championship in style, he didn't stumble over the line.

You don't want to say that missed pink from Ali Carter will come back to haunt him but did he let Stuart off the hook? Stuart is now feeling a lot more comfortable and it's hard to predict the winner now.
