Brighton interim boss Amy Merricks on her team's seven-match winless WSL run: "We know where we are in the league. I've said before that this group are more than capable of competing in this league. We know exactly what we need to do as a group to get those big performances, like we did against Manchester City [in a narrow 2-1 defeat earlier this month].

"We'll be looking to repeat that this weekend but we've got to compete. We want to create a winning environment here, a winning mentality."

Reading manager Kelly Chambers on playing at the Select Car Leasing Stadium: "We now feel really at home here. The increased support recently really helps the girls. With that atmosphere, and with a good performance against Brighton, we can create a really memorable day, especially on an iconic weekend in the women’s game.

"We know the significance [of the game]. This week in training we’ve tried to keep it as normal as possible. We prepare the same every time, no matter who we’re playing, but we know what’s expected. We’re excited – it’s what football is all about. As long as we perform how we have been, I think it’ll be a good game."

Reading have only kept one clean sheet in their last 16 matches in the WSL, conceding an average of 2.4 goals per game during that run.

Brighton, meanwhile, have conceded more goals (44) than any other side in the division this season.

After winning five and drawing one of their first six WSL games against Brighton, Reading have lost both their last two meetings with the Seagulls (4-1 in February last year and 2-1 back in September).

The Royals have, however, won all three of their home WSL matches against the south coast side.

Victoria Williams, Brianna Visalli, Libby Bance and Danielle Carter drop out.

Aston Villa v Leicester (14:00 BST)

    Leicester City

More from Leicester boss Kirk about the challenge facing the Foxes at Villa Park: "Villa are a fantastic team with some fantastic individual talents. But I think that outside the top four, on our day we can compete with the rest of the [WSL] teams.

"We're going to Villa with a plan, first of all, to take three points. If we can't take three, take one. I know they've got some talented players, but I think we are - and will be - a match for them."

Leicester City boss Willie Kirk on his team's survival prospects: "We know we need to pick up points in both our next two games [at Villa and at home to fellow strugglers Reading next weekend]. We're aware that we're in the home stretch now.

"If we don't pick up points in the next two, then suddenly we're down to five games. You know there is a pressure, but we understand that and we're trying to put that disappointment from Tottenham into perspective.

"It was only two-and-a-half months ago that we were six points away from safety, and now we're one point away from safety. As cliché as it is, it's about concentrating on the game in front of us and forgetting about all the outside noise."

Three different Villa players (Rachel Daly, Kenza Dali and Kirsty Hanson) have been directly involved in at least 10 WSL goals this term - the most different players to do so for a single team.

Leicester, meanwhile, are the lowest-scoring side in the WSL this season, having found the net just seven times across their 15 games.

  15. Leitzig has been 'sensational' for Leicesterpublished at 13:35 BST 26 March 2023

Aston Villa v Leicester (14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa boss Carla Ward speaking about the challenge of facing a Leicester side fighting to stay in the WSL: “They are a massive threat. I’ve been in a dogfight myself. When you are in a relegation scrap you have to do everything you can to get as many points as possible.

"So it’ll be a really tough weekend. Leicester have picked up. They are making games difficult, they are lively and [Janina] Leitzig in goal [on loan from Bayern Munich] has been sensational for them.

"It will not be an easy afternoon. Just because we are in form and they are bottom of the league means absolutely nothing. They need points and we will have to be at our best to take the three points."

On Jordan Nobbs and Kenza Dali’s partnership in midfield: "They come from different pathways and it’s been important that they have hit the ground running. They are intelligent footballers and they click.

"When those two get going they are a joy to watch. As much as I’m the manager I enjoy watching them as well."

  16. Villa 'light' after City cup winpublished at 13:34 BST 26 March 2023

Aston Villa v Leicester (14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

In her pre-match news conference, Aston Villa boss Carla Ward said the FA Cup quarter-final win over Manchester City has impacted on the side she can field this weekend.

"Players tried to play through maybe moments where they were struggling which has had consequences," she said.

“It shows what the group is about because they wanted to put their bodies on the line to get through but this weekend it leaves us quite light.

"There are five academy players that will be stepping up and there will be senior debuts which is great."

Aston Villa make two changes from their Women's Super League win at West Ham a fortnight ago as they go in search of a fourth successive WSL victory.

Villa boss Carla Ward hands 17-year-old defender Evie Rabjohn her first WSL start while Arsenal loanee Anna Patten also returns to the hosts' back-line. Sarah Mayling and Rachel Corsie are the players to make way.

Subs: Leat, Boye-Hlorkah, Gregory, Blindkilde Brown, Keitley, Mullett, Shaw, Tucker.

Bottom side Leicester, looking to move off the foot of the table today, also make two changes from their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham 11 days ago.

CJ Bott and Carrie Jones are the players to come in as Georgia Eaton-Collins and Missy Goodwin drop to the bench.

Leicester XI: Leitzig, Bott, Plumptre, Howard, Nevin, Tierney, Mace, Cain, Green, Jones, Whelan.

Subs: Levell, Eaton-Collins, Pike, Siemsen, Purfield, Baker, Robinson, Reavill, Goodwin.

Chelsea have been really poor at the back.

They have gifted both goals to Manchester City. You cannot give them time and space to pick out shots for both goals.

Emma Hayes making two changes before half-time speaks volumes on what she has seen from her side in this half.

    Anita Asante
Former England defender on BBC One

Man City were playing in that high press and Chelsea kept playing into the trap and I didn't understand it.

I thought Chelsea could have played beyond it, played a big longer and maybe stretch the game and play into Sam Kerr which would allow the team to get up the pitch.
