West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth
Bournemouth's Jefferson Lerma loses the ball and goes in with a two-footed lunging tackle on Gianluca Scamacca.
It's a yellow card but could have been more if he'd made more contact with the West Ham striker - or the italian had gone down.

Yet another fifty pence goes to my other half as a sort of swear box for whenever I say 'I don't know what the rules are anymore'. This year we're holidaying in Barbados...

It's not often we can compare Thilo Kehrer to Thierry Henry but here we are...

Said Benrahma v Bournemouth. He gets the ball on the edge of the box, takes a touch and slices a shot high and wide.
West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth
Said Benrahma is in the mood today for the Hammers. He gets the ball on the wing, cuts in and lashes a shot over from 25 yards.

Said Benrahma curls in a dreamboat of a left-wing cross, a proper inswinger, and a lunging Tomas Soucek is inches away from meeting it at the back stick.
West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth
Bright start to this half from West Ham with a few crosses going in. They'd go 10th if they win this.

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca lines one up from about 35 yards - but just blasts it at a Bournemouth player. Should have passed.

I'd be fuming if that goal was against us.
Hammer in Bournemouth
Personally I would put a bunch of 9 year old kids in charge of VAR. The decisions they come to playing football in the playground makes a lot more sense than the adults in charge of VAR. How was that not handball?
Andrew
What is the point in VAR? He shovelled the ball towards goal with both hands!! Either have VAR or ditch it!

Bournemouth make a change in goal. Neto is injured and is replaced by Mark Travers.
Travers started the season as number one but hasn't played since the 9-0 Liverpool defeat.

Right, we've been told that if that Thilo Kehrer handball had imediately led to the goal it would have been disallowed. But because his arm was deemed to be in a natural position and there were a few more touches before the goal, then it was fine.

So the Mahrez goal was disallowed for handball a couple of games ago, but that West Ham goal was given!! Can anybody explain that logically please? Nothing against West Ham but the game has gone mad.
Duncan, Cheshire
A truly awful VAR decision to allow that goal from a deliberate handball.

That's a shocker. He twists his body to try and knock in. Clear handball.

A scrappy first half ends with a scrappy goal putting West Ham ahead. VAR in the spotlight at the weekend and Bournemouth and Gary O'Neil certainly have issue with it tonight. The Cherries made a mess of clearing a corner as it pinged around and it was then deflected across the box by Thilo Kehrer.
He was basically doing the West Ham Irons symbol with his arms when the ball bounced off his arms and was then eventually touched in by Kurt Zouma. Bournemouth were absolutely insistent that it was a handball, it went to VAR but Mike Dean decided that there was nothing in it. No on field check, the goal stood.
Gary O'Neil was ranting at fourth official Craig Pawson and then went on t the pitch to speak to David Coote as well. West Ham probably deserved the lead, despite the contentious nature of the goal, they had a good few chances. It's not been a great game and perhaps not a great decision from the officials.

That was Kurt Zouma's second Premier League goal for West Ham, after netting in a 3-2 home win against Liverpool on 7 November last year.
The reason it was disallowed (we think) is because of this change in the handball rule...
If an attacking player’s accidental handball immediately precedes another player scoring, the goal will now be awarded, when last season it was likely to have been ruled out.
However, a player will still be penalised if he commits an accidental handball immediately before scoring himself.
