Aston Villa have got a problem. They are trying to play a 4-3-3 with Emi Buendia on the right but he doesn't want to do that. They would be better putting him into the number 10 role and asking Ashley Young to do that job.

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Nuno Espirito Santo’s immediate future as Tottenham manager is in doubt following yesterday’s 3-0 home defeat by Manchester United.

The former Wolves boss has struggled to impose an attractive style at Spurs since his appointment in the summer and results have nosedived since they started the season with three successive victories.

Tottenham failed to register a shot on target during yesterday’s reverse.

Chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paritici have held talks about Nuno’s future, even though the Portuguese has only been in charge for 17 games.

If Levy decides to act, Paulo Fonseca could come back into the frame.

The former Roma boss was on the brink of being appointed in the summer until he was ditched in favour of Gennaro Gattuso, only for the former Italy midfielder to prove unsuitable due to some questionable comments that appeared on social media.

  18. 'We will never give up'published at 16:34 GMT 31 October 2021

    FT: Norwich 1-2 Leeds

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Daniel Farke, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is disappointing as these are the type of games you need to win to earn the right to stay in this league. It is the story of our season. We have lost to the top three but all the others have been tight competitive games. Self-critical, always unlucky but a lack of quality. We put effort and heart in but we are playing for points. We need more quality in both boxes.

"It was decisive [the second goal]. We played on the front foot and were the better side for the first half. We were not able to get shots away. We showed great response and the stadium was buzzing. Sometimes you can be caught. To concede in this manner lost all momentum. The mood in the stadium changed and it was a big moment. My player know they should have done better. For me it was not even really a chance.

"You have to be honest. Once you have two points after 10 games it is not good enough. If you are always unlucky you need to add quality and there is only one answer. We cannot afford lots of quality players, we need hard work on the training field. That is the only answer. I cannot blame my players for lacking attitude and work ethic. But if this is not enough, we need to work even harder.

"Our fans are always with us. They have a sense for what you have done. They don't blame, they still give their backing.

"There is no guarantee for a self-funding club who has to work with young players but the guarantee is that we will never give up. If this is not enough we work even harder."
