Jordan Henderson was brave. He took the ball in positions where he had players round him. He wanted to get Liverpool up the pitch and pick the right passes.

He wanted to take charge of the situation for Liverpool tonight. For 60 minutes he did it. For the half an hour that Bayern nullified him, Liverpool weren't as good.

Amrul: Arjen Robben to come back for second leg and make the difference.

Richard Browne: With the defensive injuries at Liverpool 0-0 is actually a great result. Fancy nicking a goal away, in the driving seat.

Javel Bleach: Bayern didn't have a shot on target. They'll have to come out & give it a go in Munich. Pretty sure Liverpool will fancy that, especially with their first 11.

    Lyon 0-0 Barcelona

Barcelona are the only side that have not trailed for a single minute in the Champions League this season. Both them and Lyon remain unbeaten in this season's tournament.

This was the first evening of Champions League football without a goal since 15 March 2016, when both Atletico Madrid v PSV and Manchester City v Dynamo Kiev drew in the last 16.

And of course I was down on the rota to cover tonight's games. Tom Rostance will be in tomorrow for two 7-6 classics I'm sure.

  5. 'Fabinho did a great job for us'published at 22:07 GMT 19 February 2019

    Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson on BT Sport: "You're playing an experienced team. They’ve been here and done it for five or six years. We've kept a clean sheet, could’ve scored a couple of goals but the tie is well and truly alive. If we score there it's crucial.

"Fabinho was different class. Me and Fab have been working together in training, I thought he did a great job for us."

David Robinson: Are we saying that's a good performance by Bayern, playing for a draw from the first minute? They've fallen off big time. Did Lewandowski touch the ball? Incredibly negative. Mourinho would suit them.

Paul: 0-0 is a dangerous scoreline going into the second leg. A goal should have been scored.

Kyle: I wouldn't say Bayern were slight favourites at all. The pace of the front three for Liverpool on the counter attack could easily be the difference. Liverpool have a great chance still. Virgil to come back to I'm still confident Liverpool will qualify.

  7. 'Not the worst result in the world'published at 22:05 GMT 19 February 2019

    Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to BT Sport: "We're disappointed not to score. But we kept a clean sheet and defended well. We had enough chances, especially in the first half.

"It's not the worst result in the world. The performance level was good but we lacked that bit in the final third.

"They're a good team, they're going to keep the ball. At times we found it frustrating. We were a bit unlucky in front of goal.

"It's still alive. We've got games before the second leg. We've got to be confident still. It'll be difficult but we have experience in the Champions League. We can go there and hurt them."

Joshua: Fabinho plays centre-back. Who knew he'd handle this like a boss?

TJ: 0-0 isn't a bad result at home first leg, we will be scoring at the Allianz, because Bayern can't just come out to nullify, they need to score. Pressure on Bayern to outscore us in the second leg.

Brian Sands: Poor game by both teams. Cannot see Bayern scoring in 2nd leg so will play for penalties. Another stalemate to look forward to!

It's job done by Bayern. They kept Liverpool out and frustrated them. Liverpool tried to create but nothing was working for them tonight.

They had one really good chance for Sadio Mane and it was a good save by Manuel Neuer, but I was expecting more.

Kartik: This is a good result for Bayern. Not gonna be easy in Germany.

Luke: Every kid watching has hope when they are seeing Origi playing against Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the CL.

Kolo: In the absence of VVD, Liverpool played excellently in defence tonight, but made the wrong decisions in attack all night.

Bayern must be slight favourites now, even without an away goal.

They have lost only two of their last 26 home Champions League games, winning 22 and drawing two of those.

The second leg at the Allianz Arena is on Wednesday, 13 March.

I'm surprised by tonight. I was expecting a bit more from both teams, I was expecting more of a spark. I expected more chances to be created by both teams and better football.

Urgency - I've not seen anything of the like from either side. They've both played below par.
